FAO Teachers: what are your naughty names?

emeraldbell · 04/02/2010 09:44

following on from my last thread where a couple of teachers agreed that Lewis was a naughty name, well, the child with the name Lewis is usually naughty, you know what I mean?

So there must be other names that fall in to the same bracket. When a teacher sees a list of new students names and thinks 'that one'll be good and that one'll be a nightmare!'

So teachers list your good and bad names, please!

(And any one else that wants to have a go)

Quite right Ariesgirl, a bit of cheekiness/naughtiness goes a long way, especially when it is coupled with cleverness and wit.

My DS is a William and he is capable of making me want to scream in frustration and laugh at the same time - it can be hard to discipline when you are desperately trying not to giggle.

You can always spot boys' trends more than girls. IME these are names that make my heart sink
Jack
Kyle
Ethan
Lewis
Dean
Ryan
Zac
Ben
Thomas

Bless them. I usually veer wildly between wanting to strangle them and wanting to ruffle their hair because they're so funny.

I have taught many 'challenging' kids and created negative associations with certain names only to have them redeemed a few years later by a lovely, diligent child with the same name. So I'm not going to mention any in particular. Diplomacy may be no fun, but it's the way forward! Also, as mum2all said, I'm a bit of a sucker for a loveable rogue too!

In response to flightattendant - often the children described by their parents as naughty are really fine. I seem to have more trouble from children whose parents are completely blind to their poor behaviour and refuse to accept that they are not total angels. The most sparky, creative and lovely pupil i have ever taught had a mother who would march into parents' meetings saying, 'so tell me what he's done now...' as if she expected him to be naughty. It was only partly tongue-in-cheek.

Dylan, without a doubt.

And an Amy is always a goody-two-shoes.

Samantha(s) even.

Reese, Daniel and Caleb for me. Am not a teacher but apart from a Daniel (who I married) I am yet to meet one I don't think is a snot, and DH was by all accounts a total snot when a kid.

All of the Samanathas I have met have been PITAs as well.

We have just settled on Jacob as a middle name, I don't mind a bit of naughtiness.

mrsg- was just meaning that every thread I seem to read has someone on it that gets offended and can't seem to take it in the vein it is intended. The OP isn't meaning any harm, and of course we all know that teachers don't really judge a pupil by their name. Don't tell me you're going to get all offended now by teachers discussing pupils in the staffroom- kids are part of the job, and teachers need to discuss them- good and bad- they are bound to say things about you and your kids that they might not say to your face- just as in any other profession.

Oh dear wish I had read this thread when I was pg, Jacob has come up numerous times eek. But as he is only 4 months old his character is yet to be truly shown (so I will let him off)

Lay off the J's Dp and I are both J's and we were both model pupils .

The one naughty child I know of at dd's school is called Jack, also her best friend Bethany has been in a spot of trouble lately. Although we have a lovely Chelsea, so that bucks a trend.

Ben (have taught lots of naughty Ben's)
Oliver (although more specifically when shortened to Olly)
Lee (but you don't get too many Lee's these days)

as for girls
Kimberley
Lily
Donna (Again not that popular now)

FFS!! Can't believe some people object to this thread, if you can't handle a bit of ligthearted banter about the kids names, then it's a good job you don't hear what teachers say about your little darlings in the staffroom!!

For the record I think Daniels, Jordans, and Kayleighs are the ones to watch!

Uh-oh, there's a couple Kaleb's on here. I've got a Caleb but he won't be naughty because we spell it right.

I work with early years and the naughtiest have been:

Ryan
Lila-May
Edward
Ruby
Lewis
Tyler
Skye

BTW mrsruffallo, please don't take offence, if I saw any of these names on a register I would not think 'o that one's going to be a bugger' and I would not treat a child differently for their name, that's daft. It's just odd how certain names stick out IYSWIM.

When I was at school Daniel, Damien and Luke were a pain in the ass.

I hate these threads, where naughty is short hand for chavvy
No naughty children called Emily then?

I am oversensitive because my daughter's name is always on these chavvy/naughty lists on MN.

It's been on this thread a few times already.

She is sweet, intelligent and regularly described as a 'pleasure to teach' it upsets me that anyone would see her name and mark her out as a horrible naughty child.

All of the other chidren I have met who share her name are have been very nice kids (it's unisex)

Had a few rexurring themes over the years...
Josh, Tyler, Kieran, Ryan, Amy, Caitlin, Daniel, Sean, Dylan and Shannon all immediately spring to mind!

Probably just a coincidence but it's Joshua for me - I worked with EBD kids in a mainstream school and out of 20 boys I had regular sessions with 5 of them were called Joshua.

Actually I know a few teachers who have chosen the naughty names for their own DC. One in particular - the poor child was so terribly damaged by the age of seven... I often wonder if the teacher who loved him despite his enormously challenging behaviour wanted to somehow put it right IYSWIM?
