Boring and predictable? Boys names.

I found out last week that we're having another boy. My ds1 is Finlay (mainly get called Finn).

So what we've come up with so far:

Oliver
Noah
Lewis

I like Oliver the most I think - I'm also not sure how I feel about the popularity aspect. It changes day by day how I feel about having one of five or however many Olivers in his class.

Any other suggestions?

Louis (prefer to Lewis)
Jonas
Jonah

Gosh, there are lots of names. Oliver is very popular.

mathanxiety · 03/02/2010 15:42

Jona Lewie theme there...

Ondine · 03/02/2010 15:51

From your list I really like Lewis ? really good name for a grown up imo. Masculine without being too much.

Oliver - it's fine, but they're just so many.... It will be a 3 or 4 in a class type of name.

Noah ? it's a bit Amish sounding, not keen at all.

What about
Euan
Ciaran
Lucas/Luca
Patrick
Tristan
Laurence

& Jonas is really good suggestion.

Sunshinemummy · 03/02/2010 16:03

All nice but quite popular.

jellybeans · 03/02/2010 16:12

Noah the best, Oliver far far too popular and will be 'Olly'.

frizzylizzie · 03/02/2010 16:16

Finlay and Noah are great together.

Lewis is a name I strongly dislike. As a teacher, I've only come across naughty Lewises. It is not as nice as Oliver and Noah, or Finlay.

LouMacca · 03/02/2010 16:47

Love Noah
Like Oliver
Can't stand Lewis - as already said Louis much nicer imo.

cece · 03/02/2010 16:51

ditto the naughty boy called Lewis, also a teacher...

Finlay is very popular around here so thinking you aren't too bothered about that. I know one with a DB called Lucas. They go well together.

Oliver - nice but popular
Noah - very popular but not one that I would choose.

How about

Marcus
Johnny
Jude
Rory
Miles
Oscar
Francis
Russell
Connor
Callum
Jago
Spencer
Fletcher
Mitchell

Lewis is downmarket and can imagine a teenage Lewis with a skinhead and an ASBO.

Finlay is such a lovely soft sounding name and Lewis is a bad match.

Noah is lovely and sits very well with Finlay - they are of a similar style.

How about Oscar, Milo, Arlo or Louis?

monetinjanuary · 03/02/2010 17:03

Lewis or Oliver are both nice with Finlay.

SE13Mummy · 03/02/2010 17:05

I'm a teacher too and have only come across badly behaved boys named Lewis (one of whom does have an ASBO!).

Personally I don't think popularity of a name really matters plus there's no way of predicting who exactly will be in your child's class in time to come so even if you named DS2 Horatio you may find that 12 other people in your area have done the same and all apply for the same school in 4 years!

Finlay and Oliver go brilliantly together.

RetroMum1 · 03/02/2010 19:49

We thought that Noah and Finlay go so well together that had DD1 been a boy she was going to be Noah Finlay!

sweetkitty · 03/02/2010 21:18

I like Oliver the best from your list

mommymeggie · 04/02/2010 01:18

We named our newborn baby boy Noah. Everyone comments on how much they like the name.

MaggieTaSeFuar · 04/02/2010 08:34

I like Patrick and Marcus

MaggieTaSeFuar · 04/02/2010 08:35

oh i thought Ondine was the op. I wouldn't go crazy about anything on your list. Louis (slight tweak to Lewis) is nice.

ilovesprouts · 04/02/2010 08:36

hi my dd is due to give in april and loves noah/finley

Hulababy · 04/02/2010 08:42

I love Oliver.

It is popular, but for a reason - because it is so nice

I work in an infant school of 270 children. Only one Oliver AFAIK. I know two other people with an Oliver: one is 6y, the other will be early 20s now.

I am not keen on lewis at all, and Noah isn't a favourite either.

Lexilicious · 04/02/2010 08:52

My son has Lewis as a middle name but it's because it's my maiden name. Hmmm, will he be tainted by the naughty label...

Thought of Rowan? it's both a girl's and a boy's name, but I mention it because I know a couple of army officer mates called Rowan and Findlay. Both N Irish.

Cameron?

emeraldbell · 04/02/2010 09:38

I see what you mean about Lewis. I'm not mad about Louis for some reason.

I still like Oliver and it's still ahead of Noah. I just wish it wasn't so darn popular.

You have all given me an idea for a new thread though!

AuntieMaggie · 04/02/2010 09:44

I like noah

Loads of lewis/louis around here!

Adair · 04/02/2010 09:49

I like them all. But why not consider
Sky/Skyler (my ds's name)

Am convinced it will be the new Finlay

thirtysomething · 04/02/2010 09:53

depends where you are as Lewis is definitely not downmarket here and there aren't many of them (Midlands) - tis a lovely name, as is Louis....

I know of Finlays with brothers called Samuel and Archie.

Agree that Noah and Oliver are relatively popular but nowhere near as popular as Thomas, James, Ben, Charlie, Jacob, Ethan etc - again suppose it depends where you live

If you like Noah do you like Reuben? It's up and coming round here.....as are Seth, Saul and Jed.

William and Matthew are lovely too and only averagely popular...also Adam, Sebastian,Felix, Jack, Dominic, Alex...

MummyTumble · 04/02/2010 12:24

Noah - love it!

mumof2teenboys · 04/02/2010 14:32

Noah is lovely!
