Are 'Rosa' names getting popular?

I've been thinking of Rosa, either on its own or as part of a longer name.
I've seen it about a lot since, and don't want to pick anything trendy.
What do you think? Ideas Rosa can be a nickname for too please.

I only know of one other Rosa who is school age.

How about as a nickname to Rosalie or Rosaline?

Anya4 · 01/02/2010 12:11

I'm called Rosalyn, and have always quite liked it !! But would prob go for Rose as a NN if I was to call a bairn it - Rosa reminds me of the Italian shopkeeper in Fireman Sam,

Rosalyn or Rosalind both lovely and not what I'd call trendy. Both easily shortened to Rosa for a little girl then Ros as she gets older. Lovely.

I know 3 Rosa's under 5, but it is a lovely name and a bit more interesting than the other flower names.

I don't think it needs to be a nickname - none that I know of are!

We have a rosa (who is now 6) and I've only ever met one other who ran up to her v excitedly in a library shouting 'I'm a Rosa too!'I think she was 7 or 8. I love it, we named her after Rosa Parks, and it seemed like a name that would fit any country she chose to live in.

Jamieandhismagictorch · 01/02/2010 17:39

I know one, who is 5. It's a lovely name.

I think names ending in "a" are a bit more mature than names ending in "ie", which have been very popular for a good few years.

Jamieandhismagictorch · 01/02/2010 17:40

reikizen - and what a great person to be names after !

CantSupinate · 01/02/2010 17:40

I only know one Rosa and she is 12.
I don't really warm to it, to be honest (, hope my good friends don't ever read this).
I much prefer Rosalind or Rosemary or even Rose. I agree that Rosa feels slightly unfinished.

MrsJohnDeere · 01/02/2010 17:53

I don't know any Rosas. Lots of Roses and Rosies though....

Bathsheba · 02/02/2010 15:47

Rosa is beautiful and I love Rosanna - sometimes regret not using it for dd1!
