Lovely.

I love the name Alana, but have lots of family called Alan so can't go for it.

Alana May is lovely

Littlefish · 31/01/2010 22:03

Will you pronounce it:

A-lar-na

or

A-la-na (equal emphasis - more like alan with an a at the end iyswim)

May is an extremely popular middle name at the moment. Personally, I would put it with something else.

LittleDonkin · 31/01/2010 22:10

I would pronounce it A-la-na. I would like to use May as a middle name for any girls name I use as it is my birth month.

randomimposter · 01/02/2010 20:51

LittleDonkin · 01/02/2010 21:03

dizzydixies · 01/02/2010 21:08

not to my taste sorry

crumpet · 01/02/2010 21:18

knew someone whose name was spelled Alana but pronounced "Al-ay-na". Nice name but gives a lot of scope to mispronounce

4andnotout · 01/02/2010 21:21

Love it!

I have an Elana-Rose and an Olivia-Mae so I think your name choices are fab!

randomimposter · 01/02/2010 22:21

I love it, though was also thinking of Alanis (or Alani) to balance out the amount of 'a's

nooka · 02/02/2010 06:55

I know three Alanas and they are all A-lar-na. That sort of Alana May has a good rythym (although it is true May is a very popular middle name, I don't think that really matters). 'Alan with an extra a' sounds a bit odd to me tbh - I'd not associated the name with Alan before!

frakkinaround · 02/02/2010 07:03

I love it - I know 2 and they're both fiery, independent and opinionated people with very kind hearts which means it gets my thumbs up

One of them spells it Alanna and pronounces it more like Alan with a na on the end, the other is A-lar-na

nlo · 02/02/2010 11:48

I don't really like the sound of it...Alana sounds a bit too whiney to me. I really like the name May or Mae though.

BunnyLebowski · 02/02/2010 11:57

I don't like it. To me it's dated and a bit 'wet'.

But I know 3 couples who have named their dds Alana in the past 18 months so it's obviously popular!

boodleboot · 02/02/2010 13:28

i really don't like it. I know an awful one.

I love it. It is DD's 2nd name (1st name Catherine). We chose it as her paternal GF is Alan.
But even other family members missed the connection!

mathanxiety · 02/02/2010 15:38

The two I know spell it Alannah and pronounce it a-LAN-a (emphasis on the middle syllable) which is very close to the Irish origin of the name, a term of endearment meaning 'dear child'.

IlanaK · 02/02/2010 15:47

I like it. I am ilana (pronounced eeelana) so am probably biased towards it.

Jamieandhismagictorch · 02/02/2010 18:22

I like it
