Johnny

I quite fancy Johnny as a boy's name, but DS2's middle name is John. Not so keen on Jonathan - it wouldn't really go with our surname. You can't really use an existing child's middle name, can you? My first choice for a boy is Magnus, but there is a slim chance that my husband may put his foot down on that.

Thoughts?

DH's parents did, his younger brother has DH's middle name. Middle names aren't used too much so I don't think it would be a problem really. Johnny is a great name!

I would use John as the name, then Johnny as a nn - it's a bit too much of a little boys name to last into adulthood IMO.

John is a very cool name

Oh, I would definitely use Johnny as nn, with John on the birth certificate, Jamie. Johnny doesn't have enough gravitas for a high court judge (I like to keep my childrens' options open!)

I have a Jonathan nn Jonny so love it.

misssurrey · 29/01/2010 16:25

Yup, what cece said! It's an ace name for a little boy as well as being suited to when he's grown up.

cece · 29/01/2010 16:26

Yep and it is very unusual. Not met any others yet...

I have a Johnny who is nearly 4.. we have John on the birth certificate. We have still not met another Johnny at school, preschool or other clubs. He is cool, handsome and funny and really suits his name.. I say go for it but dont tell anyone else.. dont want too many Johnnys now!

I wouldnt do it if your ds2s middle names is John

LilyBolero · 27/02/2010 16:53

Go with Magnus - it is a fabulous name!

Not sure what I think about re-using your son's middle name. Think I would be tempted to look for something else but if you really prefer John/Johnny over anything else you come up with then go for it - most people who meet your son won't have a clue what his older brother's mn is!

I agree that John nickname Johnny is a good name!
