What do you think of this one?

We love NOah but have rejected it (very common in Canada/Australia, where we are from). Gabriel is the other contender.

I am being influenced by the fact I have a student named Josiah. He is lovely but I associate the name with him!

It sounds nice enough to me, but I would be mindful...
People will get confused and think you said 'Joshua'. It's very biblical -- not sucha problem when a name is very common (like Joshua/Noah), but Biblical origin is more obvious when it's an unusual name.

What if any nickname would you use? Josie is too girly. If you use Joe as NN people will think first name is Joseph...

Somehow Gabriel isn't so Biblical sounding to my mind!

I kinda like it but if I met a child with this name I'd assume the parents were religious as it's very biblical.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - President Josiah ('Jeb') Bartlett, the West Wing, makes this a great name...

It is indeed very biblical - perhaps less so out of the UK due to the Pres Bartlett connection! And my husband's surname is very Jewish and we don't necessarily want to doom the poor child into feeling like he has to go to rabbinical school.

I kind of like the fact that it's hard to nickname, and could cope with Joe if that eventuates. The downside of Gabriel is Gabe, which I'm not sure I like...

Girls' names are much easier, our daughter is Tatiana, which ticked the boxes of 1. unusual and 2. still a 'real' name.

My baby son is Josiah James. We are not religious and no one has asked us about this. We have had lots of people saying they really like his name.

Possible nicknames: Joe, Jos, Joss, Jose, Josh, Si, Siah- so actually quite a lot of choice.

Some people say Jo-si-ah and others say Joz-i-ah. Luckily we like both ways but it could be a problem if you are fussed about this.

A few people think we made it up or that it is a girl's name but most are very complimentary.
