As simple as that really, what do you think of when you hear Jasper or what do you think of the name?.

Thanks

Love Jasper, arty, like pp said.

boodleboot · 27/01/2010 17:59

We call wasps Jaspers....and spiders Boris....;-]

Two4One · 27/01/2010 18:51

It's one of those names better suited to pets.

Oscar, Felix, Jasper, Archie, Monty, Rex, Spot, Rover....

To me, they're cute on a very tiny baby, for about five minutes, but you just can't picture them as a grown-up.

wilbur · 27/01/2010 18:54

Jasper Conran. I love the name and wanted it for ds2 but dh vetoed due to a Jasper in his past he was not keen on . Eventually settled on Caspar, with a brief flirtation with Dexter.

ellokitty · 28/01/2010 00:42

Love it, I teach a Jasper and he is a lovely lad.

Ponders · 28/01/2010 00:47

oh sir jasper do not touch me

(rugby song, very silly but it's what I always think of, sorry)

I was going to say Jasper nice, in a caddish sort of way (like Rufus).

But after readinf Kerry's post can only say how sorry I am.

Flightattendant · 28/01/2010 09:32

I like it in itself BUT I also perceive it as girly...we have a small Jasper at school, he is a lovely boy, but I think the name lets him down a bit.

It means 'keeper of the treasure' I think in Persian...remembered from my 9yo self's baby name lists!

womaiden · 28/01/2010 09:32

LOVE LOVE LOVE IT (but I am biased: my DS is Jasper). He loves it too, BTW.

Flightattendant · 28/01/2010 09:32

Kerry, I am sorry

I think of magic, for some reason... I also think of a nice oldish man I know. Quite posh and a bit trendy at the moment. But very nice.

MaineGirl · 28/01/2010 12:24

sorry to hear you lost your son kerrymumbles.
the name Jasper is lovely, I wanted to call ds2 Jasper but xh (h at the time) said no way.

lola0109 · 28/01/2010 12:47

I love it, hate the nickname Jazz though for some reason. But I think the name Jasper is adorable.

But be careful as I think it is going to get very popular very quickly due to the Twilight Saga. I think Edward/Jasper/Emmett/Jacob/Bella are all going to shoot up the name charts.

(I'ma 30 year old woman by the way but LOVE the Twilight books )

sarahsyrup · 28/01/2010 14:04

Like it, but prefer Casper, and Cas for short.

nancydrewrocks · 28/01/2010 18:12

I like it - is on my shortlist but DH would veto it as we have a friend of that name and so he thinks it is too close.

However I predict it is going to be very popular and I do seem to have a knack of picking not too popular names two years before they go flying to the top of the charts!

PurpleEglu · 28/01/2010 22:07

I like it, Always have, DH would not allow as a first name though It is on our list as a middle name for potential DS3 though

cece · 28/01/2010 22:13

I think wasp.

Not sure if anyone else has mentioned it but that is what we call wasps in Devon.

Jojay · 28/01/2010 22:16

Love it! but I'm biased - DS1 is Jasper. Someone once described it as 'classic eccentric' which I thought summed it up beautifully.

Didn't know it was in Twilight though, with DS2 being Edward I'm bang on trend aren't I

BelgianMummy · 29/01/2010 11:15

We are thinking of calling our son that, but pronounced the Dutch way which is 'Yasper'.

joanne34 · 29/01/2010 11:23

Jasper was a serious contender for my DS1... its cheeky.... lovely

weehector · 30/01/2010 15:07

I like it but wouldn't have the balls.

Two associations for me:

Twilight - but that will pass as its only a flash phenomenon for a couple of years & he's a minor character...unlike Edward/Jacob.

a really, healthy outdoorsy kid - we ski in Canada every year > Jasper National Park so the name conjures up a picture of mountains & fresh air.

ooh just thought of a tenuous third...

Jasper Bloom - the slimy ex-boyfriend in The Holiday?

Runoutofideas · 30/01/2010 16:01

The naughtiest boy in dd1's school is a Jasper... Not that that means anything but it's what the name says to me!

JaynieB · 30/01/2010 16:05

Some chums have just called DS2 this - their other boy is Oscar - and they are very arty folk!
