Girls shortlist - What do you think?

Hi all, DD2 due in March and we are really struggling with names, we find one we both love and then something puts us off it.

So we've now decided to just have a shortlist and decide when we meet her. Although, knowing us we will think of something completely different on the day

DD1 is Ainslie Frances

I would like to use Ellen as a middle name in honour of my gran, can't be a first name due to our awful surname! Also want to avoid anything that sounds too Waltons/Dallas/Little House on the prairie so no Sue Ellens!

Shortlist is

Carys Ellen
Casey Ellen
Casey Elizabeth
Elizabeth Ellen
Isobel Ellen

(Elizabeth is my other gran)

Any comments or suggestions would be great.

I like Casey because that was my maiden name. I hate my married name!!!!! Nothing goes with it!!!!

rubyslippers · 27/01/2010 11:05

I Like Isobel and Carys

weegiemum · 27/01/2010 11:10

Not Casey. Others are nice - I think I like Carys best, or have you thought of the Charis spelling?

Shame you can't use Ellen as a first name as it is my fave of all you have put down here. Is it really that bad with your surname? I have a terrible surname (nice as it is unique - we are the only family in Britain with it!! But it sounds "naughty") so we just went with whatever we liked.

I like naming after Gran! Dd 2 is named for dh's Grandma and my Gran and we love her name (Rachel Jessie). Is other Gran (Elizabeth) going to be put out if Ellen is used and not her name?

diddl · 27/01/2010 11:17

Carys Ellen.

Cicatrice · 27/01/2010 11:20

I like Elizabeth or Isobel.

Hulababy · 27/01/2010 11:27

Elizabeth or Isobel.

Pingpong · 27/01/2010 11:40

Really dislike Casey (and Charis spelling - sorry weegiemum) but do like Carys or Cerys, Elizabeth or Isobel.
Carys/Cerys very popular in Wales. Isobel seems popular elsewhere and Elizabeth is a timeless classic with lots of nn potential. All good choices though and work with Ellen as a mn.

lola0109 · 27/01/2010 11:42

weegiemum why not casey, just curious as I'm just outside Glasgow and someone mentioned it was a ned name but I don't know any Casey's (I know lots of neds )

We like Carys but thought maybe it was too harsh.

Ellen/Ellie with our name sounds like Elephant and if she is not a dainty wee girl then it could cause problems in the future!

My granny Lizzie won't be put out, I had mentioned it to her and she said oh why isn't my name being used and I said when you die I'll use it for my next one! she wasn't offended by this thankfully. Frances from DD1's is her middle name anyway!

Casey is a terrible name.

Don't think the last 2 go with Ellen.

So by default Carys Ellen is the best.

I like Carys Ellen, it's a pretty name

jellybeans · 27/01/2010 13:34

Isobel Ellen

poutine · 27/01/2010 13:37

all your names are really very pretty, except for Casey. It makes me think of a boy's name (Google Mr Dress-up, a Canadian kids' program from the 1970s!)

CrowAndAlice · 27/01/2010 13:40

How about Corryn? I love this name and it sort of suits the others. If i'd had a girl she would have been Corryn.

Carys from your list.

Fandango · 27/01/2010 13:43

Carys Ellen is lovely. My middle name is Ellen and I've always loved it.

lola0109 · 27/01/2010 13:45

Ha ha ok, Casey is out then. DP wasn't too keen anyway so he's quite pleased. Maybe it's just the hormones but I quite liked it. Nice to get another view besides DP (I think he's just disagreeing with me for the sake of it).

It's my sisters friends daughters name so now feel quite bad for her!

I think Carys goes best with Ainslie, not that that matters but Ainslie & Carys does sound nice?

Carys! Definitely. really lovely name and not many of them.

Well done on finding such a pretty name.

CarrieHeffernan · 27/01/2010 16:11

Carys or Elizabeth with Ellen as middle name.

ellokitty · 28/01/2010 00:40

Elizabeth is a lovely name. Otherwise Isobel is sweet too - but very popular.

Mumcentreplus · 28/01/2010 00:50

I like Casey its DD2s middle name....it s a very workable midle name Elizabeth Casey...Ellen Casey ... Carys sounds like a surname to me..but Elizabeth Ellen nice combo...my GGs and Granmothers names who knew classics

lola0109 · 01/02/2010 10:47

Argggghhh, so i thought we had settled on Carys Ellen for DD2's name, now due in 7 weeks.

But I mentioned it to someone in work as she was asking if we had thoughts on names.

She said "oh it sounds like Carrots, I hope she doesn't have red hair!" This colleague has red hair so is there something in that this was her first thought.

There is a huge possibility DD2 could have red hair, not that it's something that would worry me, but I know the flack they sometimes take so am I now treading a thin line giving her a name that would be very easy to tease with. Or do you think it would be character building (as DP thinks).

We already have a very unfortunate surname to consider!
