I have 3 boys and am due a girl, so they say, in April. I have a boys name in standby and thought if ever I have a girl I would call her Lily. It seems to be mega popular now so was wanting something a little different.
Others on my list, bearing in mind this was started in 2004 are:
Georgia
Poppy
Lillian (Lily)
Verity (have since had it pointed out Verity sounds like ferrety and Bryony like brainy)
Bryony
Evie
Edie
Molly

DH is happy to go with whatever I want as he had an active part in naming the boys and wants me to name our first and last daughter, which is fine, but this time, I don't know if it's hormones or because it's so say a girl, I can't decide on anything and change my mind from day to day.
With the boys I heard the name and bam, that was it. It really helped make the baby more real too once it was named.
This time I just can't do it - nothing has hopped out at me as the name and I've got to the point where looking at names fille me with dread. How crap is that?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

All your names are pretty popular (except Bryony, which I like). What are the boys' names? Are you looking for a girl's name that might sound good with them?

Poohbearsmom · 25/01/2010 23:36

Lily is beautiful! I also like Molly from your list do you like Mia? I think it really lovely

Tortington · 25/01/2010 23:39

georgia = george
Poppy = pop
Lillian (Lily) = lil
Verity = ver
Bryony = bry
Evie = eve
Edie = eid
Molly = mol

remember you don't pick the nick names -the friends do!!

i personally love verity.

gerontius · 25/01/2010 23:57

I think Poppy's one of those names that's lovely for children but doesn't work for adults.

Edie, Verity and Georgia are my favourites from your list. They're all contemporary and pretty without being ubiquitous.

do you like Juliet? Has the gravitas of Georgia but is more feminine-sounding.
Polly is softer than Poppy and less popular than molly.

Lillian is an old family name. More unusual than Lily. I also like Verity.

Sunshinemummy · 26/01/2010 09:10

Most of your names are really quite popular but I do like Verity.

How about Liliana. There is a girl in DS's nursery class called this and it's lovely.

momofnearly2 · 26/01/2010 09:15

Georgia - I love it. Only know one who spells it Jorja.

Poppy - My Favourite. It's just lovely.

Lillian (Lily) - I like Lilly, It's still a really nice name but is very popular.

Verity - Not that keen

Bryony - Love it. Prefer Briony.

Evie - Nice

Edie - Nice

Molly - Very cute, not sure it would suit an adult though.

Bucharest · 26/01/2010 09:30

Georgia is lovely. Do not mess it around with naff spellings.

Poppy is one of my secret likes.

Lilian will be Lily. Which is so uber-popular that she will be one of 15 in her class. (possibly less common than if you attached a hyphen and a Mae to it, but still....>

Verity- harsh sounding and don't like these virtue names

Bryony- sounds like an American actress in the 70s.

Evie, see notes on Lily.

Edie, is cool, love it.

Molly- see notes on Poppy.

Hulababy · 26/01/2010 09:39

Georgia - ok,
Poppy - pretty
Lillian (Lily) I like Lily; think I prefer Lilia to Lillian
Verity - not keen
Bryony - not keen
Evie - pretty
Edie - I like Edith and Edie as nn
Molly - like this lots; my DD is Mollie

Hulababy · 26/01/2010 09:41

Molly.Mollie is def fne on an adult. It is quite an old name as it is so loads of adult Molly/Mollie around. I know of some, inc one who is in a reasonably hgih up professional capacity. Nme hasn't held her back.

choosyfloosy · 26/01/2010 11:41

Verity is glorious.

Have you considered Susannah, as it means 'lily'?

I wonder also if you've discounted Rose. Your little girl with her 3 brothers makes me think of Louisa May Alcott's 'Eight Cousins'

Rindercella · 26/01/2010 11:51

I really like Lily...think it is beautiful. Just how popular is it? Can't say I have come across any. Of your other choices, the only name I actively dislike is Molly, but that's just a personal thing (and no offence intended to any Mollies out there).

gagamama · 26/01/2010 11:59

Love Edie and Lillian. Lily is popular, but I don't think Lillian is particularly, and it's lovely.

Skegness · 26/01/2010 12:02

Lily is lovely. I actually don't know any little girls or babies with that name either.

needanamefast · 26/01/2010 12:13

Georgia I love.
Also Briony - nickname Bee??
Edie and Molly also lovely.
What about Polly???

posieparker · 26/01/2010 12:14

Posy....I love that name....no more dcs for me though!

keepingeverythingcrossed · 26/01/2010 19:22

Edie is lovely, how about connie?

stillfrazzled · 26/01/2010 19:31

I think your names are all lovely, especially Lillian - I know an adorable Lillian (Lillie).

Her second name is Sophia, which I also think is gorgeous - how about that?

diddl · 26/01/2010 19:37

Georgia, Verity,Briony.

butadream · 26/01/2010 19:42

If you love Lily then go for it, it's a lovely name and not ridiculously popular anyway.

vess · 27/01/2010 05:30

Georgia is nice.
How about Lila (Lee-la) instead of Lily?

If you're really stuck, you can always call her April.

tortoiseonthehalfshell · 27/01/2010 05:39

My daughter is Edith, nn Edie (or, less often, Edes). I've never heard Edie as a full name, and I guess I have a bit of resistance to calling a girl by a diminutive as their offical name. I mean, because if they grow up to be Prime Minister, Edie sounds a bit too girlish, know what I mean? Same with Poppy, to be honest, although I know it's really popular now. Mixed feelings about Molly, which I love but also doesn't pass the Prime Minister test.

But I love Verity, I was almost a Verity and have always been sad that my mother changed her mind. Like Bryony too.

And I'm very pleased that everyone loves Edie!
