I am VERY newly pregnant but I have loved the name Zander for a boy since I was about 13! What do you think of the name? I have had a very mixed response when ever I enter into the conversation of "what would you call yours!" Most people dont like it!

Alexander / Xander for short?

See I dont like Alexander!!!! And I like to call people by their "proper" name!!!!

Zander is not a name. It's a fish.

Xander IS a name and is short for Alexander.

I thought that people would automatically spell it with a z or is that just me?

If I heard the name Xander/Zander I would probably assume they had Alexander on their birth certificate. I like Xander (Buffy fan!) but also not keen on Alexander which is why it never made my list.

That said, if you love it, use it, but be prepared for a lot of people to assume it's a shortened version of Alexander

If it's 'Z' names you like, what about Zane or Zac/Zachary instead? Xander is most definitely spelt with an 'X' in most peoples books.

ok calm down! Zachary is already number one on my sisters list if she has another boy she is currenly 15 weeks with her sixth!

I have a Xander!

He is officially Alexander, but pretty much from day one we called him Xander, was not even a consious thing it just sort of happened!

And I must admit, I did originally spell it will a 'Z', just because it looked right iyswim!

It was only when I began to write it down more that I realised I had invented a new name as opposed to a nickname!And of course the fish reference!

So, at the age of 10, he is the ONLY Xander we have ever come across, loads of Alex's (which has never suited him!).

He has got the option, obviously of choosing his own variation if he wants the more formal Alexander, but to us he will always be Xander!

I would think short for Alexander and possible a BIG buffy fan.

If you want to call him Xander then go for it. Doesn't need to be Alexander if you don't want to.

Please do spell it Xander though and not Zander.

I did watch Buffy and I dont know why but I always used to pipe up when it was on and announce to my mum that when I have a boy that is what I am calling him! My sister tried to steal it for her 3rd child but I told her if she did i would never speak to her again lol! I bet because I have a boys name in the bag and have had for years I will have girls (I dont mind as long as they are healthy) I like Alana or Rhianna for a girl.

My friend and his ex have a son called Zander. And a daughter named Cordelia. Yep, big Buffy fans. Would be best to call him Xander.
