Ok - following on from my previous thread I dont feel I am doing very well in the boy's name department and would like some help. Anything we come up with I might like for a second but then just feel very meh about it shortly after...

DS is called Gene. I love his name (although lots of people don't!) Should this DC be a girl she will probably be Nancy or Lois. We want something that's not too popular and have quite a long surname, which begins with an O'.

Please inspire me oh kind and creative mumsnetters!!!

Well i have a Gabriel, and as popular as it is becoming, we get raised eyebrows (our little one is 10 months)

I vetoed it in my first pg as thought it a little wimpy. However i had a girl and this time promised dp he could have his favourite name after my faves were taken by family .

However Gene and Gabriel (or Gabe) that is two master G's. I have a miss G and people keep telling me i shouldn't of named two children beginning with G (rolled eyes)

Some good suggestions - thanks! Part of my concern is that although Gene is not particularly "way -out" neither is it very popular (!!) so would it be quite strange if the next boy had quite an "ordinary" name? Would everyone just feel like Gene really got the short straw?! ha ha!

I ask because we quite like Ed/Eddie but would be Edward officially, which is lovely but quite normal compared to Gene!

Oh and also... can anyone think of a name that Jimmy could possibly be short for other than James? I like Jimmy but don't like James (went to school with far too many!) but not sure Jimmy is a proper name - everyone would just assume he was called James wouldn't they?

welshandproud · 24/01/2010 15:31

everyone assumes our Eddie is an Edward but they are wrong

Wolfblass · 24/01/2010 15:33

Oooh Gene and Eddie, i love that!

It may appear a 'normal' name. But i'm not so sure. It all depends where you live, the type of community etc etc.

Edward - i love it, much nicer than the repeatedly heard Alfie and Jack imo!

Wolfblass · 24/01/2010 15:34

I know it would usually be Jerry, but we had a Jeremy at school who was called Jimmy by friends and family?

doubleinstructions · 24/01/2010 15:49

Gene is lovely and Jimmy IS a proper name.
My DS is Ned,only Ned even though people assume he must be an Edmond or Edward.

choosyfloosy · 24/01/2010 15:52

'One day I'll be famous, I'll be proper and prim
Go to St James so often I will call it St Jim'

Sorry, I think you will get assumptions that his name is James. But people are a bit less cavalier about this, IMO thanks to the number of Charlies who are NOT Charles. If you call the child Jim you will find most people follow you.

Have heard of a Gene and Clark, which I think go together very well.
How about
Drew
Chad
Pierce
Todd
Heath
Flynn?

ilikeyoursleeves · 24/01/2010 16:40

My two are Jamie and Zach.

I think both would go well with a Gene!
