Just wondering what you think of Darius? I;m half Persian/English and husband is English, I just thought it would be nice to have a Persian name. Thoughts?

Nothing to contribute in way of names but nice to see an Iranian on mnet. I loooove Persian culture - want to go to Iran one day! have read soo many books about it!

ZephirineDrouhin · 22/01/2010 22:34

How about Cyrus?

crankytwanky · 22/01/2010 22:38

I find Darius Danesh (or whatever he's called now) quite hot.

It's pronounced Da-rye-us though isn't it? With the emphasis on the middle syllable. (Thinking of D Vassell off of football.)

nooka · 23/01/2010 06:22

I think it's pretty cool. Makes me think of the crazy American CIA agent in the Edge of Darkness. My father is a Marius, which I think is originally Roman.

diddl · 23/01/2010 07:55

Love it!

belgo · 23/01/2010 08:25

great name! So is Dario.

I loved that cartoon Daria (girl's name).

WingedVictory · 23/01/2010 08:53

Very nice! I like Dario, too.

bellissima · 23/01/2010 11:19

Given your background then yes! (Otherwise I fess I might think a bit of an attempt to be 'exotic'). But - please can you tell us whether it's 'Da-reye - us' or Darius (i as in ink)? I have heard both, particularly when Mr Guppy was in the news.

I know a Geordie Dario. I think he is of (some) Italian extraction but somehow a Geordie Dario is just, well like the Fast Show's Julio-Geordio.

skihorse · 23/01/2010 13:44

I work with a Persian girl whose son has this name - I think it's lovely, either her way: Dar-ee-us or the more British Da-rye-us - as in Guppy. swoon and shows up her age

mathanxiety · 23/01/2010 18:57

Lovely name. Go for it.

rosieroseanna · 23/01/2010 19:19

I was thinking as in Da ree us said quickly. I also love Caspian...

nooka · 23/01/2010 20:24

I would pronounce Dar-ee-us. Caspian is good too with your connection.

HelenFF · 25/01/2010 16:01

I love both Darius and Caspian

weasle · 26/01/2010 19:49

Darius and Cyrus both great names, Persian kings i think.

CAspar/Jasper?

dinosaurinmybelly · 26/01/2010 19:56

I think it's lovely - also love Cyrus, Kian, Sam, Kayvan, Kaveh, Jasper - all of which are gorgeous persian boys names... I suppose it also depends how these fit with your last name.
