Some of you might remember I was hoping for the name Damian, for our fourth baby, due in 4 weeks, however hubs was not keen.

We eventually settled on the name Saul Nealan.

However last night, he watched 'millions' the danny boyle film, the wee boy is called Damian in it and has suddenly decided he really likes it and wants it as a name!

Now...I was convinced he would never have it, and much prefer Saul!

So I would just like a general opinion from the jury...not about whether you like the names or not, not interested in that, or any other name suggestions, its between Damian and Saul.

Which out of the two do you prefer....and why? Thanks for the help

Saul.

I find Damian a bit dull, for some reason

Songbird · 20/01/2010 13:36

Ah, flip a coin! Don't go with what the coin lands on (necessarily), but what your gut tells you when it lands a certain way, iyswim.

Personally (not that it has anything to do with me, and I don't know why perfect strangers should influence this important decision), I prefer Saul. Damian is a bit 'Omen' for me, or it's Delboy's son.

CirrhosisByTheSea · 20/01/2010 14:27

I don't like either - sorry! for a one syllable name beginning with S, I'd prefer Seth anyday. And Daniel instead of Damien!
But that's just me

notanumber · 20/01/2010 15:04

Damian.

Purely because I think Saul will lead to a lifetime of him saying, "No, not Paul, it's Saul. Saul, with an S. Saul. Like in the bible..."

shoobidoo · 20/01/2010 15:09

I prefer Saul. It's cool, masculine and nice and short. Also not that widespread.

I really don't think people will confuse Saul with Paul - especially as the S is the first letter. They sound very different to me.

Damian is ok, but what nicknames are there, if any - Damy, Dam, ??

foresttarotadmin · 20/01/2010 15:17

I wonder if people would 'shorten' damian to damon? I quite like that its not easily shortened really. Saul can be lengthened to Saullie.

Overall, I do really prefer Saul, we really might end up just having to wait and see what he looks like before naming (see if there is 666 on his head when he is born )

I love the name Saul but probably because ive got a soft spot for Saul Hudson!

FoxyRevenger · 20/01/2010 15:48

What about Damon?

Has the same sound but not the 666 connnection...

I love Damon, but my husband doesn't...boo!

Prefer Saul.

JeMeSouviens · 20/01/2010 16:36

What about Saul Damien? Covers both of your preferences then and I think it sounds good together.

MrsMattie · 20/01/2010 16:40

Saul is lovely. Just lovely.

Damian not so much.

mathanxiety · 20/01/2010 16:51

Damien. I like the sound of the name.

Jamieandhismagictorch · 20/01/2010 18:22

Damian (sorry) reminds me of a) the film or b) someone smarmy.

Saul is a great name

ChilloDOESNOTLIKELIARShippi · 20/01/2010 18:27

Damian works best for me.

dizzydixies · 20/01/2010 18:36

Saul I dislike Damian intensly for some reason, sorry

Saul is fab and has a great meaning too

foresttarotadmin · 20/01/2010 21:08

Thanks folks for the opinions, much the same as myself, initally I was very keen on damian, but that was until I came across Saul and I think Saul is the better of the two. Just going to convince the hubs that he doesnt really like damian, like he didnt all of two days ago!

I prefer the name Damian, but it doesn't go with Nealan at all, which I know that you are set on, so I would stick with Saul.

hester · 20/01/2010 21:25

I love Saul.

magbags · 21/01/2010 21:03

Much prefer Saul (a sunny day comes to mind). Don't like Damian at all (the Omen films come to mind).

Hassled · 21/01/2010 21:06

Yes, I see Damien, I think spawn of the Devil. Too many Omen connotations for too many people.

tispity · 21/01/2010 21:17

Sol is kooooler than Saul and more likely to be pronounced correctly. i know a few Sollys

foresttarotadmin · 22/01/2010 15:02

there is no way someone can mispronounce Saul, not unless they dont have a brain, sorry but its true lol.

Sol is short for solomon, not a name I like on a child. Its a bit...well solemn lol.

Thanks for the opinions all, we are definitely settled on Saul Nealan Williams now, no doubt about it. Just got to wait for him to arrive...30 days to go
