Middle name for Rowan

stuckforname · 18/01/2010 12:58

I'm 24wks with dc4, which we think is a boy. We're fairly set on the name Rowan, but stuck for a middle name. My other children have traditional biblical names, with ds1 and dd having a biblical middle name. Ds2's middle name is Aidan, so Celtic/Northumbrian Saint's name.

Any suggestions to go with Rowan? Thoughts so far are;

Rowan Edwin
Rowan Bede (I love this, but probably am not quite daring enough to use it!)
Rowan Benjamin

Any other thoughts? Thanks!

Rowan Bede is fine, if you love it, and second names are so rarely used, then why not?

yellowflowers · 18/01/2010 13:04

Wow - Rowan Bede sounds brilliant. I love the name Rowan and not sure I would use Bede as first name but that is a brilliant combination as a second name.

shoobidoo · 18/01/2010 13:22

Rowan Bede sounds great, I agree.

stuckforname · 18/01/2010 13:35

I do love the sound of Rowan Bede, just not sure if I'm brave enough to go with it!

Danger.

OK, couldn't resist.

Rowan Bede sounds pretty cool

Rowan Bartholomew works acoustically as well, IMO

pinksky · 18/01/2010 18:05

Love Rowan Bede - go for it!

stuckforname · 18/01/2010 18:20

Why Danger?

I like Rowan Bartholemew too! Does have a nice ring to it.

I love the name Rowan (would have been dd2's name had she been ds).

Rowan Bartholemew is yummy.
Rown Benjamin v nice too.
Rowan Bede 'sounds' right but I'm not fond of Bede tbh.
I don't like Edwin.

DD2 would likely have been one of:
Rowan Laurence (but now it sounds like too many 'nnnn's' to me
Rowan Ashley (but now I don't like that)
Rowan David
Rowan Matthew

I also really like the sound of Rowan James, though it may be a bit boring-sounding for you.

jellybeans · 18/01/2010 18:46

Zac
Jacob
Samuel
Matthew

Rowan Alexander?

stuckforname · 19/01/2010 15:37

I quite like Rowan David out of those suggestions - and is a little more mainstream than either Bede or Bartholomew!!!

owen?

boodleboot · 19/01/2010 16:14

It has to be Rowan Bede.....brilliant

DiamondHead · 19/01/2010 16:16

Rowan Bede.
Middle names should be a bit interesting - a good talking point for when he's older.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 19/01/2010 20:08

Why Danger? Cos then he could say "Danger is my middle name"!

I know, I know - TOO silly!

Glad you like Rowan Bartholomew, don't quite know why it suddenly landed in my head, but it sounded good!

Good luck with the middle name hunt. If I have any more flashes of inspiration, I'll let you know...

Rowan Lee sounds nice. Out of interest how are you planning on pronouncing Rowan?

displayuntilbestbefore · 19/01/2010 21:00

Rowan Lee sounds like a residential home for the elderly somewhere in the Cotswolds

stuckforname · 19/01/2010 23:37

lol at residential home! Yes, not keen on Lee.

Would pronounce Rowan Roh-un if that makes sense. I also like the spelling Rohan, but think I prefer Rowan.

deffo rowan bede

WeWantYourDoofDoofs · 20/01/2010 07:52

Yes it does a bit oops!

Up here in Scotland it would be Row (as in rowing with DH) - un and I think it sounds awful that way.

PfftTheMagicDragon · 20/01/2010 08:06

bede is good. Go for it! The only time anyone has asked my childrens middle names was after they were born and I think most people are open to slightly odd middle names.

displayuntilbestbefore · 20/01/2010 11:08

sorry, didn't mean to post it twice - apologies esp to WeWantYour as wasn't intended to mock your suggestion

stuckforname · 20/01/2010 12:17

So would none of you honestly not be a bit if someone you knew told you that was what they'd called their baby?
