While I'm here:

Wilfred, Henrik or Oscar

Which do you prefer?

One, yr2...lovely kid. I prefer it with a k.

Didn't you just have a baby?!

shoobidoo · 15/01/2010 11:19

Henrik is great!

Not keen on Wilfred and Oscar too popular/common imo.

FlightAttendant · 15/01/2010 11:19

Oskar

MarshaBrady · 15/01/2010 11:20

YES he is 4 weeks old. We have decided on Oscar. Registration of Name is next week.

Everyone has been told. Reactions have been... muted, nay silent!

I am having doubts!! I need help...

Dh is very unimpressed I am thinking again about the name. So I come to mn.

oh dear I did that...told everyone what he was going to be told, then once he arrived, changed it!

There were a lot of awful silences as everyone (apart from one person I think) hated the name.

It made me feel quite sad but it was his name, and it suits him, and people will get used to it (he's nearly 3)

FlightAttendant · 15/01/2010 11:26

called I mean!

oohIsay · 15/01/2010 11:29

I know quite a few, about 6 in total. Half are from nice families and the other half are from rough families. It's too popular to be 'posh' or middle-class.

mumoftoomany · 15/01/2010 11:29

I know 2 little Oscars, so I do think that the name is becoming quite popular/common. But if you love it, thats the most important thing.

Personally, I prefer Henrik - simple, masculine and more unique.

exexpat · 15/01/2010 11:30

One Oscar (yr1) at school - a little on the um, lively side, shall we say, but generally a nice little boy. And I know at least three dogs called Oscar: all under 2 yrs old, and very cute, but that might not be what you wanted to hear?

AnAngelWithin · 15/01/2010 11:30

i know of 4 oscars, all under the age of 5. 3 of them are horrid! lol

Egg · 15/01/2010 11:32

Two Oscars at DS1's pre school (age 3/4), of around 40 or so in total. Both are lovely (he is friends with both). It is fairly popular round here but not as popular as DS1's name!

Skegness · 15/01/2010 11:32

0 of 50ish and there were 0 of 50ish in their last school too. They are 10 though (twins) and I have the impression that it's increased in popularity over the past few years.

The only Oscar I have ever known was a most delightful, gentle, intelligent border terrier, about 26 years ago.

jimblejambles · 15/01/2010 11:33

There is one Oscar in ds class. He is very naughty but amazingly clever.

Egg · 15/01/2010 11:33

BTW not so keen on Henrik or Wilfred. Do like Henry though.

Oscar also the name of MILs v old terrier but, again, think DS1's name is also v popular with dogs!

MarshaBrady · 15/01/2010 11:33

I know! One conversation went like this:

What's he called?
Oscar

Er yes. Took us a while to decide, Ds1 wanted to call him Zacharius
Oh Zac's a nice name
We're not calling him Zac

And lots of silence from everyone. Weird, not even muted, fake that's lovely response!
Except for dh's work that like it (creative industry).

lol at all the lovely, intelligent dogs with Oscar as name. I don't even mind that as much as bad connotations.

Skegness · 15/01/2010 11:37

Definitely Henrik!

petalpower · 15/01/2010 11:38

None in DD's (Year 3) or DS's (Year 5) class.

petalpower · 15/01/2010 11:40

Think Oscar is a lovely name though. Call your son what ever you like and take no notice of other people!

Annabelsmummie · 15/01/2010 11:40

There is one Oskar in DD's class (of 25).

I think Henrik is a great name!

YouKnowNothingoftheCrunch · 15/01/2010 11:42

One Oscar
None 100 in year

And that Oscar is very nice, lively (in the good sense of the world), and very, very bright.

I think it's a lovely name.

Because it's still seen as a very old-fashioned name by a lot of people, I think it can take time for some to get used to it.

And people have always greeted my DCs' names with silence, but they tell me they love them now.

Does he look like an Oscar?

I like George and Charlie too.

gillybeanie · 15/01/2010 11:43

i know two Oscars with a age gap of about 15yrs
haven"t seen older one for ages but the younger one is a lovely, lively, gorgeous, very intelligent little boy

pollywollydoodle · 15/01/2010 11:44

none
