Bulgarian names

I wasn't going to post on baby names but last night DP and I actually agreed on some names and am curious as to the reactions they will provoke!
DP is Bulgarian, I'm English, I originally wanted something that didn't sound too Bulgarian but now have been swayed.. We have :

Valentin - boy

Penka - girl

Penka I like a lot, it's DPs mothers name, which is tradition here and I like Penny for short.
Valentin I like, it sounds romantic and exotic to me but what to shorten it to? DP reckons Valyo/ Vallo

Well... what do people think of our 'different' baby names?

I like Penny! Penka sounds a bit like wanka to me though.

I love Valentin(e) though. Is Valentina for a girl a name in Bulgarian?

I reckon Valentina could be a girls name here as well as most names can be for either sex with the additition or subtraction af an 'a'.

Valentin here has no 'e' and is pronounced val-en-teen.

Luckily, 'wanka' is not in the bulgarian language!!

I wanted Dominic - after my dad - but here the shortened version 'Dom' means house and sounds a bit daft. I suggested using Nic as the shortened form.. maybe I'll get my way with a second baby...
