A middle name for Lawrence?

migandtig · 07/01/2010 16:44

Lawrence was born 3 weeks ago and spent most of Christmas being known as "baby brother". We finally agreed on Lawrence, but after that epic, have run out of inclination for a middle name...
I'm thinking something classic e.g Edward or Henry (DH thinks it's a Thomas the tank obsession...) His brother is a Tristan William.
Come on you creative types, give us some ideas!
Thanks

David?

jemart · 07/01/2010 16:50

John - L.J. for short.

paulaplumpbottom · 07/01/2010 16:52

Not Olivier

I like James.

Are you not worried people will call him Larry

missismac · 07/01/2010 16:54

Yes, I was thinking James. Very classy.

thelunar66 · 07/01/2010 16:57

Ooh... a Lawrence. I've got a Lawrence too. We went with a short snappy 'John' as a middle name, but I think James sounds lovely.

Now he's a teenager he does get called Lol by everyone though.

diddl · 07/01/2010 16:57

James,Charles,Alexander,Sebastian?

CantSleepWontSleep · 07/01/2010 17:12

Elliot.

Can I ask you and thelunar66 how many people have so far misspelled his name as Laurence? This is the one concern that is putting us off using the name ourselves if dc3 is ds2.

thelunar66 · 07/01/2010 17:22

I don't think i've ever seen it mis-spelled as Laurence. He did say there was one other boy at school who is Laurence.

MamaLazarou · 07/01/2010 18:11

Arthur

Jamieandhismagictorch · 07/01/2010 18:37

I thought the spelling was Laurence (and Lawrence is a surname) ?

A bit like Philip/Phillips.

Anyway - what about Matthew ?

Momdeguerre · 07/01/2010 19:34

Charles
George
Thomas

My DS is Charles Lawrence.

CantSleepWontSleep · 07/01/2010 19:38

Nope Jamie - both are equally correct.

brimfull · 07/01/2010 19:39

My db is Lawrence Andrew

brimfull · 07/01/2010 19:40

db is a Laurence

girls spelling in France apparently

wubblybubbly · 07/01/2010 20:24

Our DS is Lawrence, he get's Lawrie from us and almost everyone misspells it as Laurie.

He's actually Robert Lawrence (seemed like a good idea at the time but causes no end of confusion!) Both names mean something to us, Robert is on both sides and Lawrence was my Dad. I like middle names that relate to the family in some way, are there any male relatives you could name him for?

Jamieandhismagictorch · 07/01/2010 20:51

I stand corrected

Lovely name BTW

Laurence is such a fabbo name (and equally valid). DD1 would have been Laurie, had she been ds.

Lawrence James is my favourite but I like Laurence Andrew, Laurence David and Laurence Matthew as well.

PestoSnowMonster · 07/01/2010 20:54

Bowen

migandtig · 07/01/2010 20:55

Ooh lots of lovely suggestions. Will make a short list and pin it on the fridge, and also make a date at the registery office so we have to decide!
I do agree that Laurence is probably a more traditional spelling and Lawrence is the American / sir name verison; but the fact that Laurence is a girls name in France made us go for the latter.
I've known 2 lawrences growing up; and they've been 'Loz' or Lol' to thier friends. Ours is becoming a 'Lozzie' at home, but will probably be a Lawrie in public while he's young.

My db's name is never shortened within our family , think his friends call him Loz

thelunar66 · 07/01/2010 22:17

OP... there is a pic of my lovely Lawrence on my profile.
