Wasn't going to post on baby names, but now have plenty time on my hands as laid up with broken ankle with 8 weeks til due date....

Our dillema is this.

DH, DS and I all have names beginning with J. We didn't intentionally give DS a J name, we didn't really think about it tbh.

So, I am due ds2 in 8 weeks (or sooner) and we still haven't decided if we will give him a J name or not.

There aren't really any J names that spring to mind instantly, but I haven't really looked very hard.

Or do we steer away from the J thing completely?

We are also looking for a Scottish name that isn't one of the really popular ones just now like Lewis or Cameron for example. Nothing against these names,I like them, but don't want him to be one of 6 in the class!!

But I also don't want it to be a rare name that nobody has heard of.

Our surname is two syllables, ending in an, so can't be anything like Gordon or Struan, ending in similar sound.

I'm not fussy or anything eh?

American family - the Duggars - were on tv. Gave first child a name that started with J like father. Then didnt want second child to be left out so also has a name starting with J. They now have 19 children all of whom have names starting with J!

I think Ines/Inez is a girls name but Innes is a boys name. But might be totally wrong!

I had never heard of Kester, but also googled it and found it to be of Gaelic origin (so could be irish of course) meaning Christopher. So if google says so, then it must be true

Oh, I like Innes too - hadn't thought of that one. And I don't need to google that, it's definitely a boys name here anyway.

I haven't heard the name Callan before. I quite like it, but I think it may be setting the poor boy up for confusion with everyone thinking his name is Callum.

Our surname is one of those ones where we always have to spell it out (it's not a difficult surname, it says the way it spells, but it's not very common, so people mishear it because they have never heard it before) so we need a likely to have been heard of before first name.

There are Rosses in the family already, but agree it's a great name.

How scottish is our family eh? I have a fairly big list of names that I like, but baby will have fairly close relations already with those names so can't really use them - Gordon, Fraser, Martin, Iain, Alastair, Ross, Duncan, Stewart amongst others. Hoots mon, jings, crivens, help ma boab.

DS is John, but we call him Johnny, so I also don't really want to use any names that also derivitives of John eg Jack, Jock etc, and I can't use Donald (which I love), or Ronald (but not so keen on anyway) because I would feel a bit of a tube shouting "Johnny, Donnie, come in, your tea's ready"

Who knew choosing a name would be so hard!!

And once we've got a first name, we'll need a middle one too....

Ach just call him The Bairn or Hen.
