dh and i have a new revised list of names we agree on

Frances
Jemima
Hermione
Fenella
Lucia

dh's favourite is hermione (which we nearly called dd1 6 this until people put us off with the harry potter link - to a bit of regret i have to say)
my favourite is lucia (pronounced lu-see-ah). is it really okay to pronounce it like this? - even i use to say it the italian way but don't like the harsh sound. i don't have a problem correcting people with the way we say it btw as ds has an unusual name which we have to spell and re-pronounce all the time. just wanted some validation that you can say it the way i like it as i don't know any lucia's myself. also, are any of these names getting very popular in your parts? thanks anyone

I actually like Hermione, and HP is now mainstream enough that it doesn't really register any more, not like when it first came out.

Also like Lucia pronounced your way but the hassle factor would put me off. Lucy is lovely though.

Jemima and Fenella are too frilly for me, but Frances is ace.

None are especially popular near me but none would raise an eyebrow except Fenella.

dizzydixies · 07/01/2010 10:07

love Hermione too

not too keen on fenella or Francis but the others are nice

bellissima · 07/01/2010 10:11

Love Frances. Know a really nice one (adult) - it's also far less used than Francesca (also nice). Jemima also nice.
Fenella - well excellent if she has the same husky tones as Ms Fielding but otherwise not keen. Not keen on Hermione either and prefer Lucy to Lucia.

Skegness · 07/01/2010 10:19

Frances is a fab name.

weaselbudge · 07/01/2010 11:01

I know a Lucia pronounced your way - she is portuguese and this is the correct pronunciation - it seems normal to me. There are lots of names where people need correcting so if you really really love it I wouldn't be put off.

liliputlady · 07/01/2010 11:03

Frances and Lucia are both lovely.

loobylu3 · 07/01/2010 13:29

Lucia (pn your way) is lovely!!

LaTristesse · 07/01/2010 13:57

None of these are popular round my way - I prefer Lucia - your pn is fine!

mummydarlingsausage · 07/01/2010 15:07

thanks for the replies - great to hear that pronunciation is fine....so maybe lucia frances - i think they sound good together. will speak to dh later!

Frances and Lucia are just gorgeous names.

pointydig · 07/01/2010 20:47

I really like Frances, it's my fave

JaneiteIsAWimpyTeacher · 07/01/2010 20:49

I like Frances and Hermione. Lucia is nice too. I don't like the other two - in fact, I really dislike Fenella.

Bonsoir · 07/01/2010 20:54

Lucie is a lovely name, and less confusing to pronounce than Lucia.

Jemima and Fenella and Hermione are OTT. Frances is really boring but Francesca is lovely.

BabyValentine · 07/01/2010 21:17

For what it is worth, I know a Lucia pronounced Loo-cheee-ah, so I would automatically say it that way.

I love Frances and gave it to DD1 as middle name, wish I'd kept it now as really struggling with name for DD2!

Lucia Frances is a beautiful name!

Facebookaddict · 07/01/2010 22:32

Jeminia would be Jemma. Lucia acyou pronounce it - lovely and valid but what is DD called? Has to work, esp with sisters !

piscesmoon · 07/01/2010 22:41
