Names that mean Star anyone know any?

Just having a muse really, DB4 will probably be DD4 and we would like to give her a middle name in honour of MIL who died last year, MILs name was Stella and this will not go with our proposed first name plus MIL hated her name anyway.

So am thinking is there another name which means Star, ideally it needs to be short as first name will be at least 3 syllables.

Any ideas?

preggersplayspop · 05/01/2010 16:16

i thought seren was welsh for star, but could be wrong

OrmIrian · 05/01/2010 16:16

Estelle or Estella?

BelleDameSansMerci · 05/01/2010 16:17

I think the following are all "star related":

Estelle
Etoile
Astra
Astrid (not sure about that one)
Celeste
Celestine

but all have more than one syllable. Can't think of more off the top of my head.

Estelle etc

bronze · 05/01/2010 16:18

my mn has gone so weird I posted my Estelle before the Seren

bronze · 05/01/2010 16:19

Esther?

sweetkitty · 05/01/2010 16:22

Thought about Estelle or Seren they are maybes.

Her first name will probably end in -ella is Estelle too similar?

Is Seren pronounced SerEEN or SerIN?

Hester (Greek)
Seren (Welsh)
Astra

bronze · 05/01/2010 16:28

ren with an e as in red

mejon · 05/01/2010 16:28

Neither. It is pronounced SerEN with the 'en' as in engulf or enlighten but with equal emphasis on both syllables.

Poledra · 05/01/2010 16:29

I like Seren, SK, and it's a lovely thought to put your MIL's name in like that. Don't go for Astra though - reminds me of the car

shockers · 05/01/2010 16:33

Stella

shockers · 05/01/2010 16:34

Sorry...didn't read your post properly

PureAsTheColdDrivenSnow · 05/01/2010 16:35

Realtin (Rale-TSEEN) means little star in Irish. There are fadas (accents) on the e and the i. Realt is Star, and the suffix -in is the diminutive.

Ondine · 05/01/2010 16:42

Tara means star.

Seren is lovely.

LadyThompson · 05/01/2010 16:47

I knew a very beautiful American lady who was just called Star (and it was her real name as well) Otherwise, here is a link to 58 star names

dizzydixies · 05/01/2010 16:49

Seren pn SER-IN

sweetkitty · 05/01/2010 16:50

Am liking Seren

it's goes well with a long first name ending in -a as well. Am thinking of Seren Mary or even Seren Maris (Stella Maris being a name for the Virgin Mary Star of the Sea)

Estrella (eh-stray-ah) is Spanish for star and gorgeous, but unfortunately any Spaniard will tell you it's the name of a beer and would be like calling a kid Heineken over there

southeastastra · 05/01/2010 17:03

me! without the se

pointydig · 05/01/2010 17:03

Poppity · 05/01/2010 17:11
