One of the only names DH and I agree on is Magnus. However when we told PILs that this was our top name choice, they laughed.
Thoughts??

Magnus is a great name and even better if you have an Orkney connection.
Ignore the PILs!

I would advise anyone who is pregnant never to divulge potential names in RL (MN excluded of course ) everyone and anyone will try and put you off whichever names you have chosen but once the baby is here and you say "the baby has arrived and his name is Magnus, no one will say that's horrible about a newborn" well they shouldn't

The only Magnus I know has brothers called Horatio and Titus........

Love it. Go on.

Magnus is lovely. And so much nicer and more elegant than Jack, Thomas and Charlie....

I know several (Scandinavian and German) Magnuses.

If you like it that is all that matters

Ooh, and Magnus Scheving (Sportacus) who's quite yummy without the moustache.

It's not a really odd name at all. I like it.

tbh, i prefer Marcus to Magnus. Magnus very 'now' which is fine, but it'll date. I like a Roman Classic name like Marcus.

I do like Magnus though, i know of about 3 under 4, so to me it is beginning to sound mainstream but I can understand why it sounds a bit 'forrin' to the older generation.

i wanted to call my son Bruno and my xmil was scathing. Beeeotch
