Since I am indulging in fantasy baby names DP and I both love it, but worried it's too silly. Whaddyathink?

It's the name of a womble..can you imagine the teasing?!

boodleboot · 02/01/2010 13:38

not for a human... reminds me of Dansk a furniture shop in lakeside....

for a pet tho?

TheFallenMadonna · 02/01/2010 13:41

IIRC, the wombles chose their name from Great Uncle Bulgaria's atlas. If you're stuck for ideas it might be worth a shot...

cece · 02/01/2010 13:42

Isn't that s womble name? LOL
What is wrong with Tom?

bibbitybobbitysantahat · 02/01/2010 13:43

Remember-member-member what a Womble womble womble you are. I think Tomsk was the slightly dim one, wasn't he?

AnAuntieNotAMum · 02/01/2010 13:45

Makes me think of the town, Tomsk, in Siberia, which has a pretty bloody history

I prefer Orinoco.

JingleBellsBatmanSmells · 02/01/2010 14:42

Is the Wombles still on or are you all showing your age?

Yes, it's a Womble name, though we didn't know that when we heard it (I never watched it, DP did but didn't recognise it). My family is from Wimbledon though and DP sometimes affectionately refers to me as his Womble, so quite liked that.

I don't believe in making kids conform just to avoid the possibility of bullying. Tom is fine, prefer Tomsk!

How about Bungo?

MaggieMnaSneachta · 02/01/2010 14:47

madame cholet

JaneiteIsTrite · 02/01/2010 14:49

I would never use it myself but actually, surprisingly, I think it's gorgeous.

Heated · 02/01/2010 15:27

Am a conventional namer but I do like it. Do you or dp have any connection to the snowy northern hemisphere?

DoesntTheTurkeyDragOn · 02/01/2010 15:43

You can not name your child after a womble, intentionally or not.

mathanxiety · 02/01/2010 16:18

Prefer Vladivostok, nn Vlad.

stickylittlefingers · 02/01/2010 16:29

I used to call my asthma inhaler Vlad...

You can't be called Tomsk for the generation who watched the wombles. And isn't it a place name - like a Russian calling their son London, or something? Seems a bit odd, but it's a free country (this one, anyway!)

MamaLazarou · 02/01/2010 18:16

Don't be ridiculous!

CirrhosisByTheSea · 02/01/2010 18:46

No-sk

MrsWeasley · 02/01/2010 19:10

Tomsk was the sporty one in a vest! here

Please tell me you live near Wimbledon?

poinsettydawg · 02/01/2010 19:15

You hvae obviously had yourself a wombling merry christmas

TheGashlycrumbTinies · 02/01/2010 19:17

Womble

Sputnik · 02/01/2010 19:19

You are right it is silly.
Why not have Tom and use Tomsk as a nickname?

JingleBellsBatmanSmells · 02/01/2010 20:59

Looks like it's just you and me Janeite

Heated not to that particular bit of the snowy northern hemisphere, sadly. We could always take a trip and try to conceive the little blighter there? Or just get bladdered on voddy on the night in question

mathanxiety I like Vlad actually. I also now quite like Dansk
