DP has suggested Zane for our son.

I don't know what to think of it! WDYT??

Is it actually even a name?

I think it's horrendous and (I assume) your DP doesn't even have pregnancy hormones to blame.

hohohojollster · 28/12/2009 07:39

just no ...

DoesntTheTurkeyDragOn · 28/12/2009 07:40

There is a Radio 1 DJ called Zane Lowe, but his full name is Alexander Zane Wilberforce Reid Lowe so I'm not sure he's a great example.

AllThreeWays · 28/12/2009 07:41

Apparently it's a version of John. I don't mind it. Perfectly normal name [shrug]

sagenonion · 28/12/2009 10:59

yes, I've on ever heard of it in the context of a surname, as in Billy Zane

Its a bit chavvy i think. Imagine shouting "Zaaaaaaane" up the street.

Merle · 28/12/2009 11:16

I had wondered about the DJ's name as, I think, because he is an adult and from NZ, I tend to just accept it, whereas for a newborn I am pretty resistant to it. It makes more sense when I hear his full name and I have to say that I far prefer it as a middle name, with more formal first and second names.

Doozie · 28/12/2009 11:19

Insane Zane.. no.

ILoveGregoryHouse · 28/12/2009 11:21

It's arabic. And the name of a mobile phone company in Bahrain (Zain). I wouldn't.

MamaLazarou · 28/12/2009 11:26

It's quite nice: unusual, easy to spell. Yes, I like it.

IckleJess · 28/12/2009 11:56

When I was a teenager I used to know a Zane. He had bright red dreadlocks and was...well...a little Zaney.

Lovely lad mind

Marne · 28/12/2009 18:47

i like it .

5ringinginthenewyear · 28/12/2009 18:55

I went to school with a Zane. His parents were deeply religious, his dad even started a very strict religious school. Zane was very good looking though

katnkittens · 28/12/2009 19:40

I knew a Zane...

Camp as Christmas and bullied all his life

Noooooooooooooooo

Chuffinnora · 28/12/2009 19:50

It's one of those sci-fi sounding names like Blake. They always sound made up.

Would limit his job opportunities for the future I imagine.
Justice Zane Sagenonion wouldn't necessarily inspire confidence.

kittywise · 28/12/2009 20:26

zane insane

LowLevelBahHumbug · 28/12/2009 20:29

No no no. Trying too hard.

lixanismapolium · 28/12/2009 21:09

Love it. Know a few boys/men called Zane and also a Xane.

mathanxiety · 28/12/2009 21:31

Here's one -- maybe your DH liked western novels as a boy?

er no

CairoLucy · 29/12/2009 10:04

Zane (or Zain, Zein - my preferred spelling - or Zayn) is an Arabic name meaning 'beauty' and is a unisex name ie works for boys AND girls. Considered it for our egyptian-british DD but ruled it out cos in UK she'd be 'zany' or 'inzane'.

BarbieLovesKen · 29/12/2009 11:23

Oh God its horrible! please don't.
