Grayson for a boy??

I have my girl's name sorted and thought I had settled on Arthur (or Arwyn) for a boy.

The name Grayson has popped into my head and I'm not sure what reaction I may get. When I mentioned it to xdp all he said was 'as in Larry'.

I think I like it and if anyone shortend it to Gray I wouldn't mind too much but I am swayed by my hormones - please tell me if you think this is awful as I just can't tell!

I think it sounds rather melancholy but quite sweet as American surname type names go.

skidoodle · 26/12/2009 06:31

Not nice. Everyone will say "as in Larry" or "as in Perry"

Very Chumley-Warner I think (as in upper class twit). Stick with Arthur! Isn't Arwyn/Arwen for a girl - I can think of a few fantasy heroines called Arywn/Arwen (the most famous of course being from Lord of the Rings).

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 26/12/2009 07:23

I did immediately think Larry. An personally not keen.

Haribolicious · 26/12/2009 07:28

Not keen here either....but I quite like Gray?

MrsKitty · 26/12/2009 07:50

There would definitely be too much "as in Larry" responses from people if you went for it - was my initial thought, anyway.

seeker · 26/12/2009 08:18

It's doesn't really matter what anyone else thinks, if your DP thinks Larry then you can't really use it. Sorry. Well, I'm not really sorry, because I don't like it either, but you know what I mean!

Isn't Arwyn a girl's name? Or am I thinking of Anwyn?

whoopstheregoesmymerkin · 26/12/2009 09:06

Grayson Perry - very talented but makes pots with disturbing images and dresses as a little girl

5inthesleighbed · 26/12/2009 09:58

I know an adult Grayson, he is a lovely bloke.

I like Arthur as well, but not Arwen, thats a girls name right?

Heated · 26/12/2009 10:01

Love Arthur.

Don't listen to those pg hormones!

brimfull · 26/12/2009 10:02

I too automatically think of grayson perry

carrielou2007 · 26/12/2009 10:06

Ok, Grayson is out then (it's ex dp so I don't really care what he thinks but it seems not a good choice!!)

Arwen is a girls name but I meant Arwyn (I'm sure that's the right spelling, better check then it's welsh). I wanted Carys for dd but her dad (was with him at the time) put his foot down so we went with Carrie.

Think will stick with Arthur, was having a panic as thought labour was starting this morning but now nothing!!
