my bf and i are expecting a lil boy in april our first baby aswell. bf is not from england but i am , i suggested a name from his country he said no he would prefer a english name,
with that he said shane , which i personally dont like (no offence to ne1) i then suggested tyler which i think is a cuties name.
my bf then said that tyler is a black persons name!!!!! what is he on about ? dont think we will ever decide together , and disssapointed with his attitude to a name !! any advice ???

I know too many dogs called Tyler I'm afraid, it's not much better than Shane, perhaps you need to draw up a list togther.

butadream · 20/12/2009 14:38

Where is your bf from?

I know a Tyler at DD's school and he is gorgeous, jet black curly hair and a cheeky grin..I like it.

jkklpu · 20/12/2009 21:33

Shane is Irish anyway. Tyler is pretty awful. Surely that's not the end of the discussion???

kikid · 20/12/2009 21:47

Troll?

chegirlwithbellson · 20/12/2009 21:50

I dont know any black people called Tyler. Not that I know every black person in the country or anything.

Know quite a few white Tylers though.

MaggieAnFiaRua · 20/12/2009 21:51

I know an Irish (white) Tyler. So that blows a couple of theories out of the water.

I think there is a tradition for names beginning with Ty to be used in some black communities (not sure if that's jamaican or african american, sorry). But I only know this because i know an irish guy called Tyrone who said that when ever he shows up anyway, people say 'oh> you're not what we expected'.

I like the name Shane fwiw. But it's a man my age sort of name. LIke, I don't know, Neil or David. I wouldn't instantly think of it for a baby, but it is quite nice.

dinoroar · 20/12/2009 21:58

What you need to do is to each write a list of 10 names separately that you like.

Compare your lists and see if you like either of the names.

FWIW, I'm not keen on Shane or Tyler (regardless of race!).

Here are the top 20 boys names from 2008 - I like them all:

JACK
OLIVER
THOMAS
HARRY
JOSHUA
ALFIE
CHARLIE
DANIEL
JAMES
WILLIAM
SAMUEL
GEORGE
JOSEPH
LEWIS
ETHAN
MOHAMMED
DYLAN
BENJAMIN
ALEXANDER
JACOB

I have only ever met white Tylers.

Thissideofchannel · 21/12/2009 09:04

My Canadian nephew (white) is called Tyler - it suits him perfectly!

bellissima · 21/12/2009 09:44

So you're from the Kentucky in England then? hmm.

diddl · 21/12/2009 10:11

Of course she is bellisima, because people never move from their home country or post from a different country!

MrsMattie · 21/12/2009 11:35

I know a girl called Tyler.

It's incredibly tacky in my opinion, sorry.

bellissima · 21/12/2009 11:53

Well aware of that diddl - DH and half my family 'furriners' and I have lived abroad. But I generally remain consistent on where I'm 'from'. Agree kikid.
