None of my friends like the name i've chosen...

I know the important thing is that we like it, and we do, but i've had nothing but negative comments from friends about babys name, and i'm feeling all hormonal and upset.

It's taken ages for us to find a name that we like and and can agree on, and that 'fits', and i don't know what other name we would use if we didn't use it.

The name is Seth Elijah, btw.

Its done now but its a really really bad idea to tell ANYONE your names before the baby is born. I am an arch blabber but we resisted and so glad we did as the names I put out there early in the pregnancy all got shot down in the flames. Unless you call your son Jack or Tom or something top ten there will be a proportion of dullards who wont like it.

Seth Elijah is a lovely name IMO stick with it.

solongpumpkin · 17/12/2009 15:24

Trouble with telling people your choice of names before the birth is they feel entitled to comment. We found out the hard way. I will defo be keeping it quiet til dc2 is born.

i suggest going out with your friends again a and when the baby name comes up again and they start sticking their oars in, do big hormonal bawling in middle of restuarant, with wailing and waaaa! make sure snot is involved. Friends will hastily start making soothing shhhhhhhshsh noises and telling you how much they love it after all.

Seth is a really fabulous name! One of our top choices!! And it goes well with Elijah which is also lovely... although for another of our top names we went with Elias.

Emmerdale schmemmerdale.

Mistletoesnowman · 17/12/2009 15:56

Lovely names. This is why we didn't tell anyone what we were going to tell either of ours until they were here.

belgo · 17/12/2009 15:58

Seth Elijah is a lovely name! Keep it. Your friends will get used to it.

audley · 17/12/2009 16:07

Screw them. How rude of them to comment without being asked to.

Hate it when people ask what names you're going to choose, and then give you the face if they don't happen to like your choice. Fuckwits.

Carulli · 17/12/2009 16:58

Call him whatever you like. My friend called her son Barnaby which I didn't like although never told her.) Now he suits it perfectly and everyone is used to it.

birdofthenorth · 17/12/2009 18:10

Seth Elijah is a gorgeous name!

Don't tell anyone else til he's born and you'll then get the lovley reaction you deserve!!

Why on earth would people pressure you to say what your chosen name was? That is so rude in my opinion. I would never even dream of asking if you knew the baby's sex, never mind anything else.

I think Seth Elijah is a lovely name. "Like in Emmerdale" - yeah cos in 20 years' time loads of people will get that connection.

Deemented · 18/12/2009 04:38

Thanks again for reaffirming my name choice

I like it, DP likes it, DS likes it... DD is too young to have an opinion, but she'll go with the majority

I love it. Know a Seth who's absolutely lovely, and Eli was one of my top choices for DS. If you like it, use it!

hester · 18/12/2009 23:08

Seth is one of my favourite names ever. Your friends have no taste.

MummyTumble · 19/12/2009 08:37

If you love it - go with it! Babies become what you name them.

We named DS a 'top 10' name and my parents made it perfectly clear they didn't like it -hard lines - we do, we love both long and short versions so tough! Despite my parents giving me an unusual, 'foreign' no-one could pronounce or spell name in the 70's

You can't please all of the people all of the time....and you are the important ones !

Deemented · 14/01/2010 13:49

So, a quick update!!

Baby was born on Tuesday, and was indeed Seth Elijah for all of ten mins... but he really didn't suit that name.

He's now Tate Aneurin which fits him much much better!!!

Congratulations Dee! And hello little Tate!

Seth Elijah and Tate Aneurin both wonderful names but I must say your final choice is fabulous.

MamaLazarou · 15/01/2010 09:19

Wow, congratulations! Love the name. xx

thumbwitch · 15/01/2010 09:24

Congratulations Dee! Glad you have a name that suits him, what do your friends think of this one?

ShowOfHands · 15/01/2010 09:26

Aww lovely news dee.

And judging by this thread, Seth is going to be very popular so perhaps Tate's a better choice after all!

Aneurin is a beautiful name too.

MrsJamin · 15/01/2010 10:18

Tate is a great name - and congrats

Guad · 15/01/2010 10:25

Seth is a lovely name.

I know a couple and I've never heard anyone mention Emmerdale, I didn't even know there was a Seth in Emmerdale.

It must be hard if everyone you know says they don't like it but you have to go with your own judgement. They won't/shouldn't say anything after the birth anyway.

zozzle · 15/01/2010 11:44

Love both names

Heated · 15/01/2010 11:56

If you go for a slightly non mainstream name ppl won't universally like it, but when you present them with the actual Seth Elijah, ime, they will
