Do you like or dislike this name, do you know anyone called it?

We kind of like it....

We call my friend Liv, its short for Olivia.

Have you got your inspiration from Liv's World?

TisTheSeasonToBeHully · 16/12/2009 09:01

If you have twins they could be Liv and Letliv. Cool.

JingleAllTheWay · 16/12/2009 09:10

Know a 2 year old Liv but it is short for Olivia.

Like it tho

IsItMeOrSanta · 16/12/2009 09:26

I'd register them as Olivia and just call them Liv as a nickname if it were me.

MadameDuBain · 16/12/2009 09:28

I like it but there do seem to be millions of Olivias (who get called Liv/Livvy) so not a good choice if you want unusual.

Pineapplechunks · 16/12/2009 09:32

My best friend of over 20 years is Olivia, Liv for short.

She didn't like it as a child, who does like their name growing up? But as an adult she likes it and so do I.

Its my DD's middle name too.

Would certainly register her as Olivia though not Liv.

cory · 16/12/2009 09:34

Not necessarily short for Olivia: 'Liv' means 'life' in Scandinavian languages. Sounds a very 1940s name to me coming from a Swedish pov, so could well be due a revival.

winjy · 16/12/2009 09:53

my little sister is olivia...liv for short..she loves it and so do all the family..its cute

MamaLazarou · 16/12/2009 11:26

I don't think it's a good stand-alone name. But fine as a nickname.

OliviaMumsnet · 16/12/2009 11:34

Have to say I'm not that keen on Liv.
For short, I'm usually Ahliv (like the first 2 syllables of my name, Not Olive as in on the buses )
Liv Tyler is Elizabeth fwiw

Francagoestohollywood · 16/12/2009 11:40

Oh I love the name Liv!

Bathsheba · 16/12/2009 12:01

I had a lovely midwife a few weeks ago when I was in hospital and her DD was Liv....

busterk · 16/12/2009 12:04

My daughter is Olivia and only 1 person in the family calls her liv. Everyone else calls her Ollie!!

LynetteScavo · 16/12/2009 12:07

Hmmmm, it's not offensive, but I would presume it was short for something else.

The improtant thing is that you like it.

Vivia · 16/12/2009 14:57

I love it, especially as a standalone name. Beautiful.

mathanxiety · 16/12/2009 15:26

Very lovely as a stand alone, especially with Cory's translation.

Ineedsomesleep · 16/12/2009 15:48

{fgrin] at TisTheSeasonToBeHully.

Perhaps if you don't fancy LetLiv for a twin you could have Moxie Girl instead.

Ineedsomesleep · 16/12/2009 15:49

Sorry should be Silly mistake. Will get me coat.

Ninni · 16/12/2009 17:09

Thank you all! It is actually a 'real' stand alone name, as Cory said, it's Scandinavian (Icelandic) and means 'Life' or alternatively 'protection'.

Anyone else?

MrsMattie · 16/12/2009 17:11

I love it as a standalone name. Much cooler than Olivia. I know a Norwegian girl called Liv (just Liv).

GossipMonger · 16/12/2009 17:13

An italian friend has a Livia which I think is beautiful.
