We now have a lovely little baby boy, born on Saturday. At home (no pain relief!), it was wonderful.

Now we are feeling the pressure, the pressure of a name.

Tobias - does this have a more religious or Scandinavian feel?

Rupert - hmm feedback on this not so great so far

Oscar - dh loves, very popular but it is cute

Henrik -dh's choice

What do you think?

Congratulations

I like Rupert. We know a Rupert and he is Rupes for short.

displayuntiltwelfthnight · 16/12/2009 10:15

Oscar is ten a penny these days so for that reason I'd say no to that. Henrik is nice.

Sidge · 16/12/2009 10:42

I love Tobias. Fabulous name.

(I also like Henrik but imagine it would be misheard/misspelled as Henry a lot)

Congratulations!

hulabula · 16/12/2009 14:36

I love Rupert. And Henrik! Great choices!

I'd avoid Oscar and Toby as both are quite common and imo a little bland.

Congratulations by the way!

MarshaBrady · 16/12/2009 14:43

Hulabula good timing, we are now favouring..

Rupert Hendrik
or Hendrik Rupert

getting very close, all your comments are great!

Well done
Henrik, Tobias and Oscar all great. Avoid Rupert.

andlipsticktoo · 16/12/2009 16:22

Rupert Hendrik - how lovely!

I think Rupert is the sort of name you can be quite about, but when you meet someone with that name it is actually lovely.

happymerrychristmas · 16/12/2009 16:48

Agree that Rupert Henrik sounds great!

I love Rupert and prefer it to your other choices, although Henrik is lovely too. I know a nice German one - I think it was quite popular in Germany in the 70s.

GossipMonger · 16/12/2009 16:52

Rupert - NO! Really dont like it at all.

Tobias Henrik would be my favourite.

Congratulations!

MarshaBrady · 16/12/2009 17:15

Gossip why do you hate Rupert? I need to know what I'm up against, (don't hold back I can take it ).

Thanks for congrats.

I think Rupert is cute, but then I am biased because it is my 4 year old nephew's name. He's mostly called Roo .

I also like Henrik and Tobias, but am not that keen on Oscar - it has become really popular recently, so it might date more than a more 'classic' name.

mumtoted · 16/12/2009 17:47

Oscar

doubleexpresso · 17/12/2009 17:52

Congratulations I love Tobias. It's cool and not too popular and you have the option of nn Toby, which is also a great name.

birdofthenorth · 17/12/2009 17:56

Congrats!!

I love your choices, especially Henrik and Tobias

PoppyIsApain · 17/12/2009 18:05

Oscar, i also think Tobias has a ring to it.
Congrats

qwerty123 · 17/12/2009 21:10

Rupert Henrik is gorgeous! Go for it! Congratulations!

edam · 17/12/2009 21:13

Rupert has class connotations - fine if you don't mind everyone assuming he's a bit posh but potentially a little tricky if you aren't.

thisisyesterday · 17/12/2009 21:16

i love Tobias and Henrik the best

Thissideofchannel · 17/12/2009 22:37

Why would it be 'a little tricky' to be called Rupert (or any name) if you are not 'posh'? Are certain names reserved for certain 'classes'? Come on, a person grows into his name, not the other way round imo.

I love Rupert Henrik - great name!

edam · 17/12/2009 23:26

because if you are called Rupert and live in Barnsley, for instance, you are likely to have the piss ripped out of you.

said · 17/12/2009 23:29

Henrik is cool. Tobias also reminds me of Oliver Tobias (which is good)

No to Rupert and Oscar too now

Congratulations!

MarshaBrady · 18/12/2009 00:00

No point in going into it all but no, my world it is not the Barnsley type situation mentioned.

Ventured out today which was lovely, the what's his name onslaught was quite tidal! But feel like I want the parents to meet him to see what suits, just need to last to Christmas eve. Can I last until then I wonder...

listen, whatever you choose, I'm sure he is absolutely gorgeous and will suit his name. Rupert can be lovely (knew a nice one when I was little - although we were in Yorkshire it was far enough from Barnsley not to raise too many eyebrows ). Mind you, Rupert the Bear was on telly so he did have people singing it to him. Keep your fingers crossed it doesn't come back!

MaggieAnFiaRua · 18/12/2009 12:35

Toby or Oscar in that order.

MaggieAnFiaRua · 18/12/2009 12:38

i hate rupert too. it's like a paraody of the upper class snoot. not just a privileged middle-class person's name. there's something about rupert that sounds insufferably pompous. my cousin married a rupert. he's makes really bad jokes and laughs heartily at them himself.

and a girl i know married a rupinder, he tried to change his name to rupert to 'fit in' and everybody told him to leave it Rupinder, that would be less of a disadvantage than rupert!
