Nico?

So this is the only boys name we're even remotely excited about.
But would you pronounce it Nee-co or Nick-o? x

I know a man called Nico (Nee-co). I like it.

I know a very nice 11 year old Nico ('Nee-co') . It's short for Nicholas (pronounced French way - one French parent). In fact mother explained that one reason for the nn is that, in this country, 'Nicola' is a girl's name.

Part of me feels that would be odd to use name if you weren't 'continental'. Another part of me thinks anybody entitled to use any name they like after all.

I absolutely LOVE this name. DH and i want to use it but can't as it is almost like calling the child 'junior' cos of DH's name!

Too nick name in style for a given name. I just don't find it appealing.

I've only ever heard it pronounced 'Nee-co' and on both occasions it's been the name of badly behaved boys at school. Sorry!

Nee-co. Popular in the Spanish speaking world too.

i quite like it as Neeco. Nicko sounds like he's a bit lightfingered.

It's just a fancy version of Nick.

I've always heard Neeco. I also like Nicolai (pronounced Nick-oh-lie)

Very popular around here. I went to a toddler group last year and there were 3 Nico's in the room of about 30 children.

The actress Thandie Newton called her daughter this not as a nn but as a standalone name.

Theres a F1 driver called Nico Rosberg. Nice name.

I love Nico, but I am a huge F1 fan and Nico Rosberg is my favourite. DH vetod it for both boys.

I prefer Nico to Nicolas. I'd pronounce it Nee-co.

I like it as a girl's name, Vivia! I think the drummer from Coldplay also has a daughter called Nico (unless he has a child with Thandie Newton...).

I would imagine these two examples are from Nico, the beautiful but rather tragic singer from the Velvet Underground.

Was tempted if DC1 had been a girl, until someone pointed out Nico was a junkie who supplied heroin to her own son who then went on to die of an overdose Pretty tragic namesake, I suppose.

I love it for boys or girls, but could never use it as it's the nickname of an ex fling of mine (a dark, shifty, bad boy type). Pronounced Nee-co in Italy and short for Nicola (male name).
