Apparently, my Dad wanted to call me Fleur. Although its not a name I'd chose myself I do quite like it.

Out of your list I would avoid Ava as its so popular.

Love Thea, Matilda and Elizabeth.

Hmmm. somehow prefer good old English Florie. Fleur somehow just a little bit fey. Like calling the child Flower or Petal. Forsyte Saga innit? (no I'm not QUITE that old to have sat watching that in the sixties but my mother loved it!)

diddl · 12/12/2009 09:04

I love it!
Like it with Elizabeth as a middle name.

Also like Thea.

QandA · 12/12/2009 09:05

Agree with Ineed that Ava is very popular at the moment, though it is a nice name. I love Thea too. Not sure about Fleur TBH.

girlsyearapart · 12/12/2009 09:06

Sorry don't like it. My Mum wanted to call me Fleur I'm eternally grateful she didn't.

Rhymes with bleurgh and eurgh..

Matilda, Ava and Thea were on my list too. Only Dh would say Fee-a so we wouldn't have that one.

moondog · 12/12/2009 09:13

Fleur is nice, better than the rest.

fairylightsgliMMErontheLINDTen · 12/12/2009 09:15

Not that keen, sounds a bit poncy to me.

Matilda is lovely, as is Ava and Elisabeth.

doubleexpresso · 12/12/2009 17:56

Like Fleur, prefer Flora. I think that Thea is too similar to 'Fear' iyswim

jeep · 12/12/2009 17:57

i used to know one, she was a lunatic, so no from me

Bleatblurt · 12/12/2009 17:58

I like it a lot. Flora was on my girls list when pg with DC3 as I was worried I couldn't carry off a DD called Fleur.

Heated · 12/12/2009 17:59

It's very pretty.

MamaLazarou · 12/12/2009 18:03

It's nice written down.

But I don't like the way it sounds like bleurgh.

GetDownYouWillFall · 12/12/2009 18:33

I like Fleur. Don't go for Flora. I heard a joke once about Marge, Flora and their younger sister Ican'tbelieveitsnotbutter

Wouldn't choose Thea, sounds like you've got a lisp when you say it.

motherbeyond · 12/12/2009 18:51

i knew a fleur at school..you imagine a pretty, gentle nymph-like little girl with a name like that. this fleur looked more like a helga!!
felt really sorry for her.plus we all said..fleeeeeeeuuuuuurrgggghhhhh then pretended to be sick (kids are cruel!)
so bear that in mind,if your little girl may turn out to be 6 ft,don't call her 'flower'!

NotanOtter · 12/12/2009 20:35

i knew one just like that motherbeyond

if you and dp breed tiny little fine featured things then go for it - really it is lovely

if your dd could be amazonian steer clear

skihorse · 13/12/2009 10:13

I think Fleur is a lovely name.

mother The only Helga I know is a 7 stone pole-dancer!

happymerrychristmas · 13/12/2009 10:42

I really like Fleur! Beautiful and feminine.

mathanxiety · 13/12/2009 15:49

I'm with Motherbeyond. I think it rhymes with blur. I love all your other names, especially Thea.

LilRedWG · 13/12/2009 15:52

Not keen on Thea, but love all the others. I went to school with a Fleur many years ago.

qumquat · 16/12/2009 17:32

I don't like it at all I'm afraid, sounds too much like the sound you make when you're disgusted to me. Nice meaning but not a nice sound. I love your other names though!

nooka · 17/12/2009 06:14

Go for Elizabeth. Great name, very flexible. I prefer Alethea, Theodora or Dorothea to just Thea. Matilda I think is relatively popular now, but has some good roots. Ava to me is just too short I'm afraid I also think that Fleur is rather ugly sounding, for reasons already given.

MrsMattie · 17/12/2009 10:23

I don't like it. I just don't think ti works with any kind of UK accent. It sounds like 'Urghhhh!'.

Thea and Elizabeth are both nice.
