My DD2 is almost 20wks pregnant. Which boys' name do you prefer?
I'm in the James camp, while she's leaning towards Preston
Your opinions, please.

James, obviously, given the alternative

nickytwotimes · 05/12/2009 12:21

James is a lovely name.

Preston is a bit imo.

Good luck changing her mind though.

obviously james

oldandknackered · 05/12/2009 12:28

Many, many thanks! I'm trying to persuade her that Preston is chavy and horrible but she won't listen.

Sorry but when you say Preston I think of this

boodleboot · 05/12/2009 12:34

no offence but when i was pregnant with my DD my mum was really about my name choice and quite vocal about what she thought it should be and TBH i could of really done without it.....{that said i do have a James myself and it really is the best boys name }

Firawla · 05/12/2009 13:26

james is much better, but you need to let dd make her own choice. say it once and drop it, or she would be justified to feel quite annoyed..

aseriouslyblondemoment · 05/12/2009 13:29

another vote for james but i'm also biased

SmacOnTheLipsUnderTheMistletoe · 05/12/2009 17:40

James but it's not your choice is it? Sit back and hold your tongue.

nancy75 · 05/12/2009 17:42

is preston a name? that boy that was on celeb bb his first name is sam i think

bibbitybobbityhat · 05/12/2009 17:45

Preston is the name of a very funny pig in one of ds's cartoon books.

James def my favourite. But if your dd chooses Preston you are going to be nice about it aren't you? Its not your baby ...

Heated · 05/12/2009 17:54

James is lovely and, by implication,...

oldandknackered · 05/12/2009 21:42

Of course, if she chooses Preston, that will be fine. As you say, it's not my child.
DD2 asked for my choice between James and Preston and then suggested I post a 'vote' on here to gauge mumsnetters' opinions on the two names.
It really is not a case of me dictating what my grandchild is called, just me answering her question.
After all, it could be a beautiful, little Elsie for all we know!

Another biased vote for James here - my son is one.

Preston isn't vile, I mean it could be worse... but it's very very naff.

muminthemiddle · 06/12/2009 15:51

Another vote for James.

Wasn't Preston the evil dog in a Wallace and Grommit film?

MarioChristmas · 06/12/2009 16:08

Is she a Britney fan?

jemart · 06/12/2009 16:55

James.
Preston is the evil robot dog from Wallace & Gromit "A Close Shave".

ChilloHippi · 06/12/2009 17:06

James.

mumoftoomany · 06/12/2009 17:30

It's your dd's choice - if she loves Preston, I think she should be allowed to choose it. You say "she won't listen", but you can't do more than tell her your opinion, at the end of the day, it's her baby!

MamaLazarou · 06/12/2009 17:34

Preston is awful, sorry.

Rindercella · 06/12/2009 17:40

Not keen on Preston.

However, literally every other little boy (under 3 yrs old) I know is called James. It's incredibly overpopular.

MaggieNollaig · 06/12/2009 21:31

obviously james.

preston???? Britney Spears nearly called her son this but then changed her mind and called him Sean. If it's not good enough for Britney, it's not good enough for you OP

liliputlady · 07/12/2009 15:53

I think James Preston has got quite a good ring to it.

VinegarTinselTits · 07/12/2009 15:56

Preston is a shite hole town in Lancashire

Cant think of a worse name for a child

James, however, is lovely
