I have my girl's name but not yet set on boy's name. I thought I had decided on Arthur but when I mentioned it to a friend she said it sounded like a cats name and then another said did he really take the christmas club money

Not sure why I like it but I do I think. I absol love love love Archie and Alfie but way too popular where I live.

Thoughts on Arthur please??

I like it but if you live anywhere near London prepare for him to spend his life being called ArFur.

dilbertina · 03/12/2009 21:43

love it...(dh didn't though - he got to veto Arthur in return for me vetoing Dexter).

GhoulsAreLoud · 03/12/2009 21:43

I love it.

Beauregard · 03/12/2009 21:43

Like it

nigglewiggle · 03/12/2009 21:44

I like it. What about Albert - Albie, Bertie...?

carrielou2007 · 03/12/2009 22:00

I love Dexter too but not Dex.

Not keen on names that can be shortened unless I like the shortened names too (love Archibald and Archie).

Might go back on my list then with Callum and Caden but as dd's name begins with a 'c' thought both might be a bit of a mouthfull

Love it. I have to say I much prefer it to Callum and Caden.

FiveGoMadonTheDanceFloor · 03/12/2009 22:07

Love Arthur, was my choice for DS but sadly DH disagreed.

Clary · 03/12/2009 22:10

Arthur is a great name.

Not too popular either and lovely old-English and trad. Everyone can spell it and say it, and the main association is neither cats nor EastEdners but a (mythical) king

carrielou2007 · 03/12/2009 22:17

When 'Merlin' started again on BBC1 a few weeks ago I just thought, Arthur, I like that, exDP not too keen though not really bothered either (about the name or us!!) so he can lump it. Will have his name as middle name if a boy Arthur Alan.

Awful

SolosScrapingUpForXmas · 03/12/2009 22:20

Old mans name. Love Merlin though.

SuWoombOfImmaculateConception · 03/12/2009 22:20

I love Arthur and think it is a very different type of name to Callum and Caden.

burstingtotalkaboutit · 03/12/2009 22:25

louelzibub · 03/12/2009 22:26

RnB · 03/12/2009 22:28

RnB · 03/12/2009 22:31

or Arthur even...

Rudolphtherandomreindeer · 03/12/2009 22:32

Much prefer Callum and Caden..hate all these old mans names ... can't imagine a teenager called Arthur its just wrong imo

fruitsticksinyourstocking · 03/12/2009 22:34

I have one and it's a fine fine name.

DH took some persuading (he had named DS1 so it was my turn ) and it took him 3 days to say it out loud but even he agrees now that it is a great name.

NickeeS · 03/12/2009 22:39

love Arthur and Callum, don't like Caden sorry.

Plutothatpresentdown · 03/12/2009 22:42

Arthur is great. So is Albert - I have one.

It's a brilliant name and I love it. Much classier than Callum or Caden (when did that suddenly start being a name?). My grandad's called Arthur and it's on our shortlist - might use it for a middle name if the baby doesn't suit it for a first.

MadameDuBain · 04/12/2009 08:18

I adore it, in fact it's my no 1 choice and always has been, but DP doesn't like it - so you can have it

Cat's name indeed. Only an extremely classy cat methinks.

ShowOfHands · 04/12/2009 08:22

Arthur's great.

Callum and Caden are not.
