I have my girl's name but not yet set on boy's name. I thought I had decided on Arthur but when I mentioned it to a friend she said it sounded like a cats name and then another said did he really take the christmas club money

Not sure why I like it but I do I think. I absol love love love Archie and Alfie but way too popular where I live.

Thoughts on Arthur please??

My Dad's called Arthur and he's lovely. was called Art as a teenager in the rocking 60s

lillychristmaspuddingandpie · 04/12/2009 08:32

Auther is my top choice for a boy

countrybump · 04/12/2009 08:32

I love Arthur, and would chose it for a boy if we didn't already have an Archie. I know several baby Arthurs.

hattee · 04/12/2009 08:41

Arthur and Callum are both names that I like on other peoples children!

I really like Arthur but I wouldn't use it myself as granddad names are a bit too on-trend for me. Besides, DH would never agree. Its a perfectly fine name though

Callum is quite nice, though again not really my cup of tea. I actually think it sounds quite nice and it has a lovely meaning, but I think it was really fashionable a few years ago and this puts me off.

I really don't like Caden (isn't it made up?). I'm surprised that Arthur and Caden would be on the same list tbh.

I have really boring traditional taste in names though, so you might want to completely disregard my coments!

blondiep14 · 04/12/2009 08:48

I really like it, and the nn Art/Arty but I do have a voice in my head saying 'Arfur, Arfur braincell' which is the only reason it's not on our list!

Not keen on Callum or Caden.

hohohojollster · 04/12/2009 09:31

Arthur was my dear dad - and is DS middle name. Really like it. Distinguished and not too popular/everywhere.

Quite like Calum (one L) but not Caden at all.

Depends what your DD name is, whether it rolls better with Arthur or Calum (which as others have already said are very different names).

carrielou2007 · 04/12/2009 09:54

Arthur it is then I think!! Dd is Carrie ane haven't come across any others yet until she starts playgroup/school really. I did get several 'after the horror film?' which I ignored after she was born.

I just like Arthur though like with dd not totally certain until he/she is here to know if it suits!!

Thank you for all your replies [smiles].

i love it but it's my brother's name so i am biased!

clareygill · 28/12/2009 22:19

I have an Arthur Edward & love it! (& him obviously!). After we'd decided on Arthur I kept looking at this tiny baby & thinking OMG I can't believe I've given you such a name but now he couldn't be called anything else. He was sort of named after a cat! One that had a contract with Models 1 though! Also have a friend with a Merlin & I think that is dreadful.
We have an Archie James too so do get a bit tongue tied sometimes - Archer & Arthie for example.
But both great names!
What did you decide?

Heated · 28/12/2009 22:20

I adore Arthur and if it didn't make an unfortunate set of initials I would have it on my list!

scottishmummy · 28/12/2009 22:24

love Arthur!

EmilyStrange · 28/12/2009 22:28

I love Arthur, my friends hated it when I said it was once an option.

However, you are always going to get a difference of opinion on names, which is why I never tell people the name until we have decided and the baby is born. If you and your dp like it, then that is all that matters and anyone who doesn't will forget as a baby grows into their name. I have never really understood the point of this topic as names have such an emotional response.

To me Arthur reminds me of King Arthur, to others they think of Eastenders. Same with every other name.

carrielou2007 · 28/12/2009 22:38

Still top of my list!

I love love love Archie (one of my patients has my favourite name ever Quentin Archibald!!) but Archie is VERY popular here so it is out. I also like Arwyn as dd was supposed to be Carys (I have a very very welsh named mum) but ex dp said no.

Still have a week to go unless I go over again to decide...

I like it.

santasmagicnappysack · 29/12/2009 23:39

I love it. Old English & solid but also magical. Good luck with the birth.

Snot2010YetBaby · 29/12/2009 23:46

Arthur is a lovely name for a little boy, solid and yet gentle.

Other options I had were Adam, Hector and Alfred.

tackyChristmastreedelivery · 29/12/2009 23:47

Like it.

Ineedsomesleep · 30/12/2009 08:57

Love the mame, though I might be slightly biased as its my Dad's name.

Would have loved to have used it for DS but it doesn't work with our last name.

indieangel · 30/12/2009 09:17

Love it, but it's getting v. common round here. I know of two in the last month and four last year. But it's a brilliant name.
Love Carrie also, I always think of Carrie Bradshaw (big fan emotion).

mopsyflopsy · 04/01/2010 16:57

I like Arthur but prefer Quentin (as you mentioned is as a name you liked).

Archie and Alfie, on the other hand, are very common round here (Surrey) that I would avoid those.

SplitPea · 04/01/2010 17:34

I really like Arthur.

I love Albert (Bertie) and Alfred (Freddie)too.

Not keen on Callum and don't like Caden.

parsnipper · 04/01/2010 19:52

It's getting very popular. I think it will become a bit Archie & Alfie unfortunately.
Old man chic is very of the moment IMO. I would avoid the typical old man names as I think they'll date.

Names like Edward, William and James are timeless.

Arthur, Freddie, Wilfred, Aflie, Archie, Albert and George etc are trendy and will date just like they did 40/50 years ago.

lovechoc · 04/01/2010 20:05

don't like Caden, not too keen on Arthur but Callum is ok.

jellybeans · 05/01/2010 11:34

too old man
