I think Effemy is a form of Euphemia. I like that too.
I've never heard of an Effemy and wondered how it would be received.

Like Effy, dislike Effemy. Euphemia is a nice name, providing you are at least mildly posh.

MitchyInge · 29/11/2009 09:25

makes me think of Effi Briest = makes me

but it is a pretty name

TattyCatty · 29/11/2009 09:35

We know an Effie, not short for anything - it's a lovely name, very pretty.

fatzak · 29/11/2009 09:41

I love the name Effie but for me it will always remind me of my larger than life boss when I worked in Greece! Is also short for Eftihia which means joy and happiness

heartofgold · 29/11/2009 10:01

just hope FME doesn't become a popular internet acronym.

fluffyfudge · 29/11/2009 13:33

Not keeen. It looks made up.

nighbynight · 29/11/2009 13:40

Effemy is a beautiful name, but it does sound a bit like swearing.

Also prefer Euphemia, nn Effie - I also know one who's Effie not short for anything.

LowLevelWhingeing · 29/11/2009 14:04

I thought it looks like swearing too, as in, "he was effing and jeffing" or "eff off you effing eff!"

CuppaTeaJanice · 29/11/2009 22:06

I like Effie - she's the pretty girl from Skins.

Not sure about Effemy though. I prefer it as a shortening of Josephine etc.

doubleexpresso · 29/11/2009 22:56

Agree with LowLevel. Sounds very rude, which is a shame, but it really does sound like someone saying, ing this and that.

frakkinaround · 29/11/2009 23:03

Can't get to like Effemy - does sound a bit like swearing!

I had a lovely great aunt Euphemia (or possibly great great aunt) so it's a nice name for me.

Divatheshopaholic · 29/11/2009 23:06

i like euphemia, too somehow sounds elegant
i like it shortened effie

scottishmummy · 29/11/2009 23:13

effie makes me think square-chested glaswegian wimmin who swear and smoke like lums

so no from me

brockleybelle · 29/11/2009 23:14

effy sounds like effing to me. not a nice association.

mathanxiety · 30/11/2009 14:52

Sounds like F M E or sort of like effeminate. Effy too close to swearing, imo. Reminds me of the child in Silas Marner, Eppie?

mathanxiety · 30/11/2009 14:53

Effy also sounds like it might be short for Ethel if your 'th' sounds like 'ph'.

AnnieBeansMum · 30/11/2009 14:54

Effemy sounds like effigy to me and that can't be a good thing.

Pingpong · 30/11/2009 18:54

better than Bunty !
Prefer Euphemia nn Effie than Effemy nn Effy

watchthestars · 01/12/2009 13:07

It's a bit too close to 'eff 'em for me, sorry!
