Love Eliza, Tess and Ruby (though that is now v v popular)
Like Esme, Celeste and Cassia.

Sort of love/hate Violet - depends what name is goes with - Vivi nice NN though?

MrsKitty · 29/11/2009 07:57

Seraphina - A beautiful sounding name (I take it you're a Phillip Pullman fan?)

Eliza - Great name

Celeste - Lovely

Tess - an old favourite

Ursula - Really like

CantSleepWontSleep · 29/11/2009 08:03

I like Esme, Violet, Celeste and Miranda best.

gladbag · 29/11/2009 08:10

Good list. Nina and Tess were on my shortlist, so I'm biased! They are lovely.

Of the others my favourites are Violet and Esme.

GossipMonger · 29/11/2009 08:12

I asked my boys who are 7 and 5 and they both said Ruby!

I like Emmeline.

bellissima · 29/11/2009 08:19

Like Nina.

Quite like Ruby and Miranda.
Lyra would get lycra as nn.
Tess sounds like a nn.

Cassia makes me think Cassius Clay...
Celeste makes me think of elephants.

BettyButterknife · 29/11/2009 09:00

Emmeline - ok
Violet - love it
Seraphina - ok
Lyra - I don't like it
Eliza - no
Esme - yes, although getting popular
Ruby - no, boring!
Celeste - ok
Nina - love it
Tess - love it
Ursula - should like it in theory but there's something that puts me off...
Miranda - no
Cassia - unusual, quite like it. Isn't it the spice used in Easter biscuits?

MamaLazarou · 29/11/2009 09:15

Emmeline - FABULOUS name - vastly under-used. Do it.
Violet - OK, but becoming quite popular now, if you mind that sort of thing.
Seraphina - Sounds pretentious to my working-class ears
Lyra - Too similar to Myra.
Eliza - Fine
Esme - Fine
Ruby - Again, very popular at the mo
Celeste - Fine
Nina - Meh
Tess - Fine
Ursula - Great name - would be on my shortlist too if I didn't know a smelly, hairy one
Miranda - Fine
Cassia - Don't like it - sounds made up

MummyTumble · 29/11/2009 09:31

Eliza or Violet are just fabulous....

thirtysomething · 29/11/2009 09:35

Like Tess, Ruby, Celeste, Eliza, Esme and Miranda.

Emmeline quite pretty though and Violet will be vastly popular soon!

Don't like Nina at all, sorry

The others will all get raised eyebrows and are not easy for a child to "wear" IMHO.

vivivi · 29/11/2009 10:44

Really like Esme, ruby and Emmeline.

But my favourite is Violet - it's so pretty.

diddl · 29/11/2009 10:45

Violet & Esme

Bonsoir · 29/11/2009 10:46

Violet, Eliza, Nina and Miranda are all very pretty.

TinyPawz · 29/11/2009 11:43

Love Ursula but then I love all Irish names.

Like Celeste too.

teameric · 29/11/2009 11:45

Love Violet.

Nancy66 · 29/11/2009 13:37

Violet would be my favourite. Love Esme and Celeste too.

overweightoptimist · 29/11/2009 14:08

Emmeline - nice, Pankhurst, Emme for short
Violet - lovely
Seraphina - lovely
Lyra - OK but v much Philip Pullman so if you are not a fan of his books then you may not want to use it as people will ask about it
Eliza - v nice but personally would prefer it as a nn for Elizabeth
Esme - OK
Ruby - nice but v popular at the moment
Celeste - nice
Nina - nice
Tess - nice but again would prefer Teresa or Theresa with Tss as a nn
Ursula - OK
Miranda - lovely, my favourite on this list
Cassia - don't like, sounds like blackcurrant flavouring, not like a proper name, sorry

doubleexpresso · 29/11/2009 23:00

I like your girl's names more than your boy's shortlist . Would vote for Miranda, Tess and Celeste.

homicidalmummymademincepies · 29/11/2009 23:01

Celeste, Violet and Cassia

ja9 · 29/11/2009 23:01

Esme and Eliza only...

feedthegoat · 29/11/2009 23:03

I like Violet, Esme and Ruby the best.

lilibet · 29/11/2009 23:19

Without looking at other replies

Emmeline - killed herself in a Hot Chocolate song (giving away my age!)
Violet - lovely
Seraphina - sorry, no
Lyra - No, loved the book but the name is too popular
Eliza - love it
Esme - love it
Ruby - too many of them about
Celeste - the more I think of it the more I like it, this could be a winner
Nina - I know a horrid Nina and that influences me
Tess - of the D'urbivilles - not a good ending
Ursula - the sea witch in The Little Mermaid
Miranda - not keen
Cassia - sounds made up

Servalan · 29/11/2009 23:34

Eliza - gorgeous!

Ruby - fab, but v. popular

I like Violet and Miranda too.

Not so keen on the other names on your list personally.
