What do people think?
Apart from Glo what could it be shortened to?
I think of the Van Morrison song - what do you think of?!

pippapenguin · 27/11/2009 14:54

My ex MIL's name. Hideous woman, hideous name

nickelbabe · 27/11/2009 14:56

it's a bit old-fashioned.

what about Glorie instead? means the same but looks a bit more modern.

CuppaTeaJanice · 27/11/2009 14:58

Hunniford.

And that carol that goes Glooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooria. Hosannah in excelsis (sp?)

BellaBear · 27/11/2009 14:58

I taught such a lovely girl called Gloria. I think she was Nigerian.
One of the nicest pupils I have ever had. Makes me think very fondly of the name!

We had quite a few Nigerian students who had names you might consider old fashioned in the UK.

MunchMummy · 27/11/2009 15:03

Reminds me of the hippo in Madagascar - lovely hippo, horrible name.

blondiep14 · 27/11/2009 15:47

So, general consensus is an emphatic no!
Glorie is quite sweet.

Love it, also love Glorie.

Tomatefarcie · 28/11/2009 18:02

Mrsvwoolf, you have perfectly described my Mil.

chegirl · 28/11/2009 19:07

This is one of the names that I think is beautiful but has morphed into something horrible.

The meaning is wonderful, the sound is lovely but the name Gloria is just one of those old lady ones.

Shame but what can you do?

bellissima · 28/11/2009 20:18

'At first I was afraid, I was petrified...'

great song. lousy name.

IrritableGrizzly · 30/11/2009 12:53

I'm planning to call my dog Gloria after the Green Day song, as I never got to use it on a daughter! I think it's a really nice name, and I bet in 6 months everyone will be calling it the new Ruby or some such..

biscuitbear · 30/11/2009 13:47

I like it.

BaronessBarbaraKingstanding · 30/11/2009 20:54

I love it.

I think it can transcend it's old lady image and be beautful on a young girl.

i like the way it feels when you say it.
