What do you think of Anne? Is it due for a comeback? I've always thought it was too plain and boring, but I have started to find it quite refreshing to see simple, traditional names like Jane, Mary and Anne, in this world of such fancy, try-hard, made-up sounding names. One thing's for sure, your daughter would be the only Anne - I have never heard of anyone using this as a first name in at least the last ten years!

So,would you use Anne?

Love it. DDs middle name is Anne (after Anne of Green Gables - no less )

I do have a friend Ann, who hates their name though, she feels it is beyond dull.

rubyslippers · 27/11/2009 12:20

i like it

and Anna and Annie as well

very pretty

Tortington · 27/11/2009 12:20

its not offensive

it is my middle name ( for no reason) and constantly get
"with an 'e' or without?"

RainRainGoAway · 27/11/2009 12:21

REALLY like Annie, so Anne would be great for that.

MrsBadger · 27/11/2009 12:31

I love it - had we not had a boring short surname I would have considered it for dd - we did consider Susan

wukter · 27/11/2009 12:33

It's beautiful & classic.
My sis is Anne, though we do have a long surname, they set each other off nicely.

I admire your gumption doing that MrsV!! I tried for ages to get DH to allow Marilla as a middle name. Wasn't going to happen.

And the conversation ended pretty hastily when I suggested Gilbert for DS...

MaggieBelle · 27/11/2009 16:17

I prefer Annie. My friend's sister is Anne (she's about 40 now. She introduces herself as Anna because she just felt like her parents only gave her half a name. I know what she means.

Annie and Anna are no 'less' than Emma or Nina or Ella, Ellie, Lily etc.

but just Anne,,, there's not enough to it inmvho.

BUT, I think it could be due a revival. There are some seriously flowerly names out there and Anne is the antithesis of that.

MaggieBelle · 27/11/2009 16:20

Jane on your list is much nicer. Jane, Joy, Beth fit your refreshingly simple brief.

Looking on the names board right now though, I would rather be Anne than Gloria or Igraine.... by FAR

MaggieBelle · 27/11/2009 16:21

ps, I'd also rather be Anne than Anakin! or Prudence!!

Anne is sounding nicer and nicer...

muminthemiddle · 27/11/2009 21:58

You may be right regarding the revival, although I have never thought of Ann as anything but dull and plain.

I know quite a few Ann/Annes and not one of them has ever enthused about her name. Anna is so much nicer imo.

heartofgold · 27/11/2009 22:02

as my mum says, you may as well call her "the"

anna is lovely though.

ja9 · 27/11/2009 22:05

like anna and annie a lot

not anne

bellissima · 28/11/2009 08:43

Agree ja9 (and others) - I think she would prefer Anna or Annie (both lovely), and it gets over the 'is that with an 'e'?' thing.

MamaLazarou · 28/11/2009 15:20

It's a lovely name. Nothing wrong with it at all.

at heartofgold's mum!

winterdragon · 29/11/2009 01:09

A sensible traditional names. I'd use it.

GrumpyYoungFogey · 29/11/2009 21:47

Agree Anna is better than Anne, but for goodness sake don't choose your kids' names on what is coming back in to fashion.

Both are perennial favourites until recent (bonkers) times, and are fine names.

TheFallenMadonna · 29/11/2009 21:55

It's lovely.

lilolilmanchester · 29/11/2009 22:10

without reading any other posts so as not to be influenced........ Like Anne but she would have to learn to either be always asked how to spell her name else accept wrong spelling for her entire life. (FWIW, prefer Anne to Ann). Personally prefer Anna

dizzydixies · 29/11/2009 22:40

Rain Rain and mrsvwolf my DD3 is Cordelia after Anne of Green Gables

Scottie22 · 30/11/2009 10:14

Like Anne and love Anna/Annie

My dd is Anya so on the same theme!

Cortina · 30/11/2009 11:13

She'll be the only one! Go for it!

Elsa123 · 30/11/2009 21:46

Every Anne I know is fantastic, fiesty and great. I would have it, but is does not go with my surname. Go for it- its a cool name. I prefer Anne with an E.
