Common name now?

happyatlast · 18/11/2009 18:31

I'm pregnant with my third, its a girl and I'm calling her Brooke. My eldest daughter is called Robyn and my youngest child is a boy called Harvey.

As my youngest is 5 now I'm not aware of what baby names have become really common now as its been 5 yrs since my last baby.

Does anyone know if Brooke is a common name? I dont want her to start nursery and be one of like ten others with the same name!!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Not sure but there's a list you can check. hang on a moment. I'm going to try and find it.

MaggiePie · 18/11/2009 18:34

does this work

MaggiePie · 18/11/2009 18:36

It's #42. That surprises me. Up 11 since last year, that's quite a big jump if you look at the average rise or fall. so, looks like it might get a bit more popular yet, but who knows really.

I don't know any btw.

Jamieandhismagictorch · 18/11/2009 18:41

Not come across it.

It goes very well with your other DCs names, so I'd use it if you like it

happyatlast · 18/11/2009 18:45

Thank you. I think it goes well with my other childrens names too, my heart is set on it but if it goes really common I may have to re consider, but I dont have any other names I like.

Where I live its quite common but could be different where you are

MaggiePie · 18/11/2009 18:50

I wouldn't worry about it. Like you say, She sounds like the sister of a Robyn and a Harvey.

I know a Harvey. No idea where that #s. It just depends doesn't it. I saw that one of my all time favourite names (Phoebe) is now #26. I don't know a single one of those either. 7 years ago I ruled out Phoebe for being 'too popular'. I've always had slight regret about that. Not one of my huge extended family or one of my friends, acquaintances or colleagues has a Phoebe.

MaggiePie · 18/11/2009 18:51

I see Paige is on the list too #58. I thought those two names would be virtually unused in the UK!

birdofthenorth · 18/11/2009 19:06

MaggiePie, do you know how I would find a similar list for boys? Thanks!

MaggiePie · 18/11/2009 20:01

boys 2008

MaggiePie · 18/11/2009 20:03

Just looking at the boys' names and Theo is up 15 places since last year. most of the names are only up about 2 places... (on average)

motherof2boys · 18/11/2009 20:40

never met a Brooke. Sounds nice and definitely a girl's name. Go for it if you like it!

Thanks MaggiePie!

I'm quite suprised, DS name doesn't appear on the boys names at all I thought it was gaining popularity but clearly not

DDs name as shot up, had never heard another one until Mylene Klass named her DD a year later!

girlsyearapart · 19/11/2009 08:23

Only know one Brooke.

Have been working with children for past 12 years.

dingledangle · 19/11/2009 08:28

There is one Brooke in my daughters class at school (reception). I know of another Brooke (16 yrs old). I think it may depend on where you live. The popularity does seem to range region to region. For example Jack is a very popular boys name nationally but I do not know any boys called Jack under 5 (both mine are under 5 so I see a fair few preschoolers!)

AS a previous poster has said their daughters name was not popular until a celeb called their child it. We had the same thing my DD was the only one I knew until a celeb called their child by the same name. Fingers crossed the next celeb baby is not called Brooke!

NormaSknockers · 19/11/2009 08:31

I don't know any Brookes at all, I think if you like it you should go for it. It goes really well with your other names & I think it's a nice name that's different without being wacky

muminthemiddle · 19/11/2009 22:43

I know 1 Brooke so it's not too popular where I am.

TakeLovingChances · 20/11/2009 20:47

I know 1 Brooke, but he is a man! Whenever I met him I remember thinking that it was odd that he had a girls name! I think it is a nice name for either a male or female, but I prefer it for a female. Also, I think it goes very very well with your other DCs names.

jellybeans · 20/11/2009 21:23

I don't know any but I really like it.

sheepgomeep · 20/11/2009 22:58

I only know one Brooke and she is a sweetie. She is 3
