Boy's name that goes well with Isaac

I'm 36 weeks and don't know what I'm having. We have our girl's name narrowed down to two but I am at a loss for boys.

DS is Isaac James, not particularly for biblical reason although do like meaning ('laughter'). McIsaac is my middle name after paternal granny's maiden name.

Anyway, would love a name starting with a vowel but all me and DH can think of are 'Innes' or 'Oliver'. I really like both but DH feels Oliver too English (we're in central Scotland) and I feel Innes is too similar to Isaac.

Other names we are toying with are:

Benjamin
Samuel
Ruari

erm, that's it really.

Middle name will either be Craig after DH or Charles after my beloved late Grandpa.

Any suggestions welcome!

I love Ruari best from your OP.

Also like Hamish, Noah, Gabriel, Gideon, Elijah.

With Charles as second name.

Angus

Fruitbatlings · 20/11/2009 13:40

I know an Isaac and a Noah if that's any help?

diddl · 20/11/2009 13:40

Ooh yes, like Angus.

PestoLovelyMonster · 20/11/2009 13:42

as long as your surname's not

McCoatup

cumbria81 · 20/11/2009 14:34

What's wrong with being English?

bluesatinsash · 20/11/2009 14:35

Like Angus but name of DS's friend ditto Noah. Its so much easier first time around before you knew all the children of the Mum's you met through having your DC1 - harrumph!

Alec or Ruairi? Like Owen too.

bluesatinsash · 20/11/2009 14:38

Nowt cumbria (DH's Granny is from Manchester). Just when it comes to names Scottish men like a good Scottish name (still I got away with calling DS Isaac ).

Always loved Oliver v. classy IMO..

my nephews are Max and Isaac and I think they go together really well. Have also got another friend with this combination.

jacks1972 · 23/11/2009 20:57

Isaac is top of my short-list for a boy, I'm 33 weeks and we don't know what we're having. Like yours, my DH only wants a Scottish name, we also have a very Scottish surname. His fave's are Angus, Douglas or Fraser.

I love Isaac but I don't think I'm going to get it as it is not Scottish.

eastendmummy · 23/11/2009 21:01

My DS is Caleb. I obviously love the name and love the name Isaac too - they go well together IMO.

bluesatinsash · 23/11/2009 21:21

jacks - I sympathise! You could tell your DH that McIsaac is a common Outer Hebredes surname (that's where my Granny was from)as it is!

I just think Scottish first and second name together is a bit too tartan shortcake/donald wheresyourtroosers

eastendmummy - love Caleb but he is elder brother to Noah, DS's friend!!

maxbear - can't have Max as our surname starts with a 'M'

Its so hard!

Our surname is the same as "Formula 1 Lewis" - and if we have a boy DH would love to call him Hamish - I think it is too much alliteration!

FizzyLiz · 24/11/2009 13:35

Jacob
DS is Jacob but was very nearly Isaac James! Also love Caleb with Isaac

Ooh am loving Max and Isaac! Very cool!

mumtoone · 28/11/2009 21:31

What about Euan or Alexander

serinBrightside · 28/11/2009 22:24
  1. Jacob
bluesatinsash · 29/11/2009 15:45

Think we've settled on either Samuel Craig or Benjamin Charles but met a girl at a b'day party yesterday who is never wrong with gender predictions and she said the minute I walked through the door that I'm having a girl which has been my feeling all along.

All the other names are lovely but know too many of DS's friend's called that name and there are three Jacob's at his playgroup.

Still like Oliver Craig tho'

Oh well time will tell and that's a whole other story as can't decide between two girls names
