Is it really that bad?

I have an 8 month old DD and whenever I tell people her name they give me a funny look and ask "Really?" as if I am joking. Either that or they start singing one of three songs. I have even had one lady say "Well I have never heard a baby called that before!" in a rather snotty voice.
I think it's a lovely name (obviously) but just wondered what the general opinion is.

Her name is Lola btw

I do feel the urge to start singing The Kinks' song but I also like the name . It's pretty.

EllieG · 14/11/2009 21:46

I think Lola is sweet, and don't think it's particularly unusual these days.

bluefootedpenguin · 14/11/2009 21:47

I think Lola is lovely and as a secondary teacher I have never taught one, so a little unusual too. Ignore people who can't be nice!x

bebesequin · 14/11/2009 21:48

Love it isn't one of annie lennox's daughters called Lola ? Pretty -suits little girl but foxy for a grown up too- and exotic when in your fities or sixties .Stuff other people how rude to comment on yur choice!!

ReneRusso · 14/11/2009 21:49

I think it's a pretty name. It is quite unusual but not weirdly so.

GossipMonger · 14/11/2009 21:50

I love it!

2 children at school called Lola and it is so pretty.

GhoulsAreLoud · 14/11/2009 21:50

I think it's a fabulous name.

I love the Kink's song too (although I realise it's about a man not a woman!)

Stuff em.

preggersplayspop · 14/11/2009 21:51

I think its a sweet name and not that unusual nowadays, but probably would be for different generations who are more used to the 'her name was Lola, she was a showgirl....' side of it (was that Barry Manilow?).

You love it, it belongs to your daughter, so just try to ignore them.

ThatVikRinA22 · 14/11/2009 21:53

no! lola is a fab name!

MrsWillis · 14/11/2009 21:55

Thank you

Tbh it's usually women of the older generation who pull their noses up at it. When I told my gran what we were calling her she laughed and then said "Oh, you're serious"

But we love it and it really suits her. It seems to be getting quite popular though so hopefully there won't be 2 or 3 with the same name as her at school.

I know at least 3, its becoming a lot more popular at the minute thanks to celebs using it and Charlie & Lola

its in the same boat as all the Lily/Lola/lila/Layla/lulu's about at the minute

its lovely, you're never going to please everyone so as long as you like it thats all that matters

sandyfoz · 14/11/2009 22:41

Lola is a lovely name and would be on my list if i were having a girl!

butterscotch · 14/11/2009 22:50

Love it! I used to go swimming with a women who had a boy called Charlie and a girl called Lola that was odd but Lola as it is, is lovely!

displayuntilbestbefore · 14/11/2009 22:51

I know a couple of new babies called Lola - pretty name and people shouldn't be so rude when you tell them!

LynetteScavo · 14/11/2009 22:51

I love it! You always meet mad old ladies when you have a baby with you. Why is that?

AngryPixie · 14/11/2009 23:05

The Kinks (that was the first to spring to my mind)

barry Manilow

TheCrackFox · 14/11/2009 23:08

Love the name and I love the Barry Manilow song too. Win/win situation.

MrsWillis · 14/11/2009 23:17

A song called 'Whatever Lola wants, Lola gets'

I had never heard of it before until I had her and people would start singing it when I told them her name.

cathcat · 15/11/2009 00:25

Sara Cox has a daughter Lola.

scottishmummy · 15/11/2009 00:31

i think
kinks song
madagascar movie
but your baby name who care what anyone else thinks

BabyDancer83 · 15/11/2009 02:33

I'm quite surprised that people wrinkle their noses at it, it's getting popular these days and even in the last 10 years or so it hasnt been that unusual, and, it's a very pretty name! try to think about the people who say "aaww that's lovely", rather than those that sing it back to you
