What does everyone think of the name Flora? I love it and am considering it for my baby (if it's a girl obviously)

Just need some opinions. DH is a bit useless...

I love it. DH hates it.

dizzydixies · 01/11/2009 20:21

margarine to me I'm afraid

what about Fleur?

cloelia · 01/11/2009 21:43

or Fern?

Brightfield · 01/11/2009 21:45

I really like it, love it in fact.

MustNotEatCake · 01/11/2009 22:51

I know a few Floras. I really don't like it, sorry.

ditto Florence.

(Flora = margarine = easy to spread. Not nice for a young lady to have a name with such connotations )

TheMoistWorldOfSeptimusQuench · 01/11/2009 23:03

Love it! I have a Flora

Most people say they think it a lovely name, and no one ever mentions margarine (to our faces, anyway ). Do people still eat Flora marge anyway? Hideous stuff.

GossipMonger · 01/11/2009 23:06

Divatheshopaholic · 01/11/2009 23:08

Flora is cute, i bet people will think marge

Sazisi · 01/11/2009 23:11

I love it
doesn't make me think of marge - I'm a butter lady I'll have you know!

lol at Brightfield tho

MRSwereWOOLFhasabroomofherown · 01/11/2009 23:13

Love Flora, was my cat's name ( would have considered using for a girl otherwise).
We were constantly asked how it was spelt "as in the margarine?" but still liked all the same.

TheFallenMadonna · 01/11/2009 23:26

Nice.

vampiredogstar · 01/11/2009 23:31

if I was introduced to a little Flora I would not in a million years think marg. tis muck anyway.

very good name choice.

autumnsun · 02/11/2009 10:13

I loved it and it was on my shortlist for our second daughte. Flora is the goddess of spring and she was due end Feb/early March so quite appropriate. DH said she would get called Marg though so it put me off. I think if I ever had another I would choose it though as still love it.

Allets · 02/11/2009 10:28

Flora is a lovely name

GrendelsMum · 02/11/2009 18:51

Flora's lovely. And there's nothing wrong with Marg as a name either!

monniemae · 03/11/2009 16:20

I know two Floras. Both 30, both tall, blonde, beautiful and posh. Both love their name and not fazed by spreading puns...

GinSlinger · 03/11/2009 17:23

I have a Flora too - she is 28, tall, beautiful, posh but brunette.

ihaveaheadache · 03/11/2009 21:29

Thanks everyone, some great feedback on this name. I love it so much and can't seem to love any other girls name as much at the moment...now all I have to do is convince dh!

I LOVE this name but when I once said that as a potential name for my DS1 (at the time not sure if boy or girl!) she said "flora spread your legs" which really upset me.

I still think it's a beautiful name

LuckyC · 13/11/2009 16:38

Flora gorgeous lovely balanced two-syllable name. Freya ditto without the margarine connotations. x

MamaLazarou · 13/11/2009 16:47

Spreads easily.

GhoulsAreLoud · 13/11/2009 17:28

I love it.

CantSleepWontSleep · 13/11/2009 17:35

Another spreader.
