Aaron - how would you pronounce it?

We've picked the name Aaron for our son, but since deciding on it have discovered that people are pronouncing the name in different ways. I wanted to do a quick poll and see how you think it should be said.

Arron like baron as well, but some parents choose air-on it's an individual thing that they kid will have to correct overtime but it soon becomes the norm at school we had lots of variations in pronunciation in my year group

OwdGit · 05/04/2016 13:29

Ayup.... another really helpful comment! Thanks so much(not), Ludways. 👹

WetLettuce123 · 05/04/2016 13:41

Air - on

heron98 · 05/04/2016 14:19

I know two.

One is Air-on, the other Arron

Ludways · 05/04/2016 15:48

Owldgit, It's as helpful as the bollocks you've spouted!

OwdGit · 05/04/2016 16:42

Oooo.... who's come to vent his aggression, eh?!
My contribution was to add my opinion to the discussion. If you think it's bollocks; that says more about where you're coming from, than it does about my views. 😃

Voteforpedr0 · 05/04/2016 16:48

Baron, I would choose the spelling carefully as I see kids all too often correcting their names.

Ludways · 05/04/2016 17:27

I have no aggression, it's you who's bring passive aggressive. I personally think it's pointless to discuss s name with someone who named their child several years ago. Hey ho!

Ludways · 05/04/2016 17:28

And... His?

If you see it as pointless, stay out of it then. Otherwise you're just using someone else's discussion to vent your spleen, and then you add insult to injury by accusing us(me) of passive aggression. We don't need that sort of contribution thanks.

CocktailQueen · 05/04/2016 19:11

You could use the Scottish spelling Arran, then there is no confusion! I prefer the look of Arran too.

whatamidoinghereanyway · 05/04/2016 19:13

air-on is the American pronunciation. British is Arron.
Ask an American and they won't see the difference as its their accent.
Definitely Arron . Beautiful name Smile

StillYummy · 05/04/2016 19:24

a-ron

MaisieDotes · 05/04/2016 19:30

owdgit resurrecting zombie threads is seen as bad form round these parts.

But thanks for your contribution Smile

It's Air-on btw.

Flossiesmummy · 05/04/2016 19:38

To rhyme with Baron

Ludways · 05/04/2016 19:44

Oh for goodness sake, you started it by being rude. I didn't want to take part in a zombie thread but you've drawn me in.

Yawn, bye!

OwdGit · 05/04/2016 19:54

Like I said... stay off the topic if it gets up yer sniffer as much as it seems to be doing... despite the mock politeness. Tarrah.....

NadiaWadia · 05/04/2016 22:27

WhatamIdoinghere sorry, but you're wrong about that. You're probably younger so you don't know, but It's more like Air-on is the original British pronunciation, and Arron (rhymes with Baron) has only appeared over the last 25 years.

I am 50 and was at school (in England) with an Aaron pronounced 'Air-on', we had bible readings in church about Moses and 'Air-on' and as far as we knew at the time, there was no other way to say it. DD (22) however, was at school with a couple of 'Arrons' (spelled Aaron).

NadiaWadia · 05/04/2016 22:31

I know what you mean about American accents though, they cannot hear the difference between Marianne and Mary Anne, and say them both the same.

MrsBungle · 05/04/2016 22:31

I know 2 Aaron's. One is air-ron and the other is Ar-ron. Personally I would spell it Arran to avoid confusion and because I think it looks nicer.

Footle · 05/04/2016 23:01

Airon.

Clarabumps · 05/04/2016 23:11

Air-en

OwdGit · 06/04/2016 03:21

To Ludways:..... Errrm... No!... YOU started it, by only showing up to call this a zombie thread and to insult my input!
Your first input was: Quote: "Bloody hell, another zombie thread! walks off shaking head."
You would have done far better to work on the premise of: "If it's not helpful; don't say it." And... "If it's pointless, don't make a point of joining it just to hurl an insult and leave."
And please.. don't accuse me of drawing you in... that was your choice, and you made it your business and hence your problem; so deal with it, rather than coming in here, just to be rude and blame someone else because you couldn't come in, cast aspersions, and then just walk away without someone defending their stance... all because someone is discussing something that you see as pointless. If you see it as pointless, why join the discussion in the first place?!
Btw..... Yaaaaawwwn to you too 🙄
