Arthur or Albert?

Both just new entries on a list of names we are unsure of; but given the recent trend in "Grandad's name", these two don't apear to have made the top 100 yet - opinions?

Also, DH thinks Albert will alwas be a Bertie - is he right?

Albert. and people who abbreviate it to Albie or Bert or Bertie get stern looks.

Excellent.

I like Arthur too. I had an uncle called Arthur (he was, in fact my Dad's cousin, and was closer in age to my gps). He used to shun adults at family parties, preferring the company of children. He taught me silly poems and how to say the alphabet backwards. He was marvellous.

I like both names, they are both really nice, but I think I prefer Arthur.

My Dog is called Albert. i thought everyone would shorten it to Bert but they don't.

i know that a dog is very different to a child of course, im just saying that he may not necessarily have it shortened

I prefer Albert and think Bert is a wicked nickname.

Would never have thought of that name myself, but I know a baby Arthur and he's just gorgeous. What's more, the name seems to suit him!

Arthur.

It was the No. 1 baby boys name in UK for quite a while... 100 years ago!

Divatheshopaholic · 10/11/2009 22:36

Arthur is nice, but dh never liked it why men dislike arthur?

boodleboot · 10/11/2009 22:36

i'm really in love with the name Alvy at the minute...i assume it would be Alvin?

Hulababy · 10/11/2009 22:50

I like Arthur, not so sure on Art/Artie type nn.

I am not so keen on Albert but love th nn Albie.

Don't make any name decisions until you see your baby. My son was going to be Emile right up until the moment I held him and thought yuk this is a rubbish name for you my boy and he got something completely not on our list at all.

hester · 10/11/2009 23:01

Both sweet; I prefer Arthur.
