Now my boy name is sorted, I shall move on.

Love Louisa, but don't like it shortened to Lou.

Is it inevitable?

It is my name

Only one person has ever called me Lou, my best friend in Primary School. Everyone else has always used my full name.

mazzystartled · 21/10/2009 22:33

I know 2 little Louisas and a Louise

Louise is NEVER shortened

The Louisas get called Lulu and Lula

cloelia · 21/10/2009 22:41

My Louisa is now 13 and her name has never been shortened; a few people try Lou but it has never stuck; I love the name and am so glad we chose it. I think she likes it too and she has no other friends with the same name. She hates being called Louise! I picked a second name beginning with L too and like the alliteration. Can highly recommend it as a happy and successful choice.

My DD's name is one that could also be shortened and so far hasn't been so I suppose I might be worrying for nothing.

It is a lovely name, I don't mind Lulu and Lula it's just Lou that bothers me for some reason. Irrational I know!

Just thought, she has a friend called Eloise, what a pretty name, unbelievably shortened by all her friends to Weezy! You can just never tell.

boodleboot · 22/10/2009 12:12

My ex SIL was louisa and we called her Weez.

i love the name.

btmh · 22/10/2009 12:21

my name too rarely gets shortened to lou but do have to correct people when they call me louise

Jamieandhismagictorch · 22/10/2009 17:28

Louisa is lovely

diddl · 22/10/2009 18:12

I love it!

pointyhat · 22/10/2009 18:30

no not inevitable. Lovely name

SheWhoseSocksAlwaysShow · 22/10/2009 18:31

Every Louise I've known has been shortened to Lou -- I like it!

Don't use it if you really can't stand the nickname you will hear it lots.

bibbitybobbitycat · 22/10/2009 18:33

Louisa = totally gorgeous.

I have a ds with a name that many people like to shorten. I just always politely correct them when I hear them doing it. And, so, at 6, he is still the longer version of his name and I hope he always will be.

ThisPhantomPlopsPumpkins · 22/10/2009 18:37

I think I'll go down the polite correction road if it crops up, until she's old enough to rebel and insist people call her Lou .

I love Louisa and also Luisa, Heloise, Eloisia, Ilona.

piscesmoon · 22/10/2009 19:08

Louisa is lovely.

katnkittens · 22/10/2009 19:13

Lovely name

RatherBeOnThePiste · 22/10/2009 19:16

Louisa is lovely really really.

akhems · 22/10/2009 19:16

I have a nearly 19 year old Louisa, as someone else said she often has to correct people who call her Louise but that's about all

ThisPhantomPlopsPumpkins · 22/10/2009 19:18

Now I need to try and convince DH!

Vivia · 27/10/2009 14:28

I think it is far nicer than Louise. My friend's DD is a Louisa and it is shortened to Luli.

CinderellaRach · 27/10/2009 15:04

Pretty name x

Spicychicken · 27/10/2009 21:39

Have only ever met one Louisa-shortened to Lou and all the Louises I know have been shortened so to speak. GORGEOUS name though.

RubyBooBerry · 27/10/2009 21:43

My name too - DETEST being called Lou and Louise, and people continually spell it Lousia or Lousea (FFS - but I am so happy i'm not a Louise cos it is so much more popular and I like being a bit different.
