Luke?

I like Luke.

Also like Alexander, but I have 2 A names already and run the risk of freaky baby naming patterns if I go for 3 As apparantely.

Girls name was easy, boys much harder!

I liked this name for DS3, but DH said it reminded him of Star Wars. He said he could never tell him off for things like "Use your fork Luke" without using a Darth Vader voice .

A close friend has this name for her son though, and I do like it.

teameric · 21/10/2009 20:55

Lukes nice, as long as your surname isn't Skywalker crap joke sorry , prefer Alexander though, don't think it matters having all a's either really.

teameric · 21/10/2009 20:56

see I'm not the only one with the star wars connection

Ondine · 21/10/2009 21:23

I think 3 A names is a bit twee.

But on the other hand Luke is ok but not as nice as Alexander.

Do you like Luca, Lucas or Lucian?

ThisPhantomPlopsPumpkins · 21/10/2009 21:23

Fortunately Skywalker is not our surname

Don't mind Luca, but don't like Lucas or Lucian.

I think Luca is lovely. Luke sounds a bit 90's to me but really it's a perfectly nice name.

What about Leo or Laurence with Laurie as a nickname?

fruitspooksbatsintheeaves · 21/10/2009 21:27

I have a Luke

go for it (as long as your surname isn't Warm)

when he was in ITU as a baby the toddler in the bed next to him was called Leah and we joked that all we needed was a Han or a chewbacca to come in and we'd have a star wars set!

there are no other Luke's at his school btw

ThisPhantomPlopsPumpkins · 21/10/2009 21:35

There are no Luke's at DS's school either.

I don't think DH would go for Luca.

I nearly went for Luke. I think its a great boys name, with a lovely meaning

MrsBadger · 21/10/2009 21:43

I quite like it, but a friend has a Lucas which I much prefer

janeite · 21/10/2009 21:45

I love Luke. I wouldn't go for three A names, personally. It sounds a bit contrived, even if unintentionally. Luke much, much nicer than Alexander anyway.

stillfrazzled · 22/10/2009 09:01

I have a Luke, and funnily enough Alexander was on the shortlist.

I didn't actually love it when we chose it (was about the only name DH or I didn't actively hate) but I'm glad we picked it now.

FWIW, we have a v long surname so short first name was preferable.

pofacedandproud · 22/10/2009 09:03

Luka lovely. we wanted it if we had a boy second time around.

Bucharest · 22/10/2009 09:05

It's OK. Doesn't set me on fire.
Lucas is much nicer.
Please don't go for Luca/Luka unless you have the appropriate cultural background. (nothing worse than hearing "Lew-ka" screeched across Asda.)

thighsmadeofcheddar · 22/10/2009 09:05

I think Luke is really nice. It's on my shortlist for boys.

LittleRedCar · 22/10/2009 09:11

It's nice, but can be tricky:

'Now look, Luke...'

'Luke, look at that...'

I speak from experience - used to help in DD's class and look, there was a Luke

Cluttergump · 22/10/2009 10:51

i personally think this name is as dullsville as you can get....sorry

annasmami · 22/10/2009 10:56

I too find Luke very boring....

MUCH prefer Lucian or Lukas!

MrsMills · 22/10/2009 10:59

I have an Alexander and a Luke! Unfortuantely because of where we live, he gets Lucas all the time, which is very popular here.

rachels103 · 22/10/2009 11:00

My ds1 is Luke, we don't know any others, I think it's a lovely name and not dull at all. (and yes, my dh does relish saying "Luke, I am your father" in a darth vader voice from time to time but boys will be boys...)

HappyBump · 22/10/2009 11:43

Luke or Lucas both lovely names

Pinkjenny · 22/10/2009 12:14

My ds is due on 29th December, he will be called Lucas. Everyone thinks it's because MIL's father was called Luke. It's not, but hey, I'll take the brownie points.
