What about pronouncing it the Spanish or Italian way, Lawra becomes lowra [as in ow I've hurt myself]

BabyDubsEverywhere · 11/10/2009 15:09

ooo i really like that idea, and it does go better with surname. Thankyou.

Lowri is indeed Welsh for Laura (is my name) but the 'Low' part is prounounced like the word 'Low' as in opposite to high so it's Low-ree.

I am called Lowry constantly and it's incredibly frustrating, even when I pronounce it clearly. Most people who have the name pronounce it Lowri (from a facebook group I saw), the Lowry pronunciation is rarer and not the traditional Welsh one. People always think I'm named after the painter Lowry (I'm really not!) and it's constantly spelt wrong - Lori, Laurie, Lowry, Lowrie, Lowree etc

But I do love it despite the annoyances :D

paisleyleaf · 12/10/2009 21:07

I'd thought Lowri was pronounced the same as the organ.
I like it with Minty's pronounciation.

qumquat · 27/10/2009 15:04

Lorelei
Lana
Lyla

I love Lorna and Lara

(I'm a Laura and I love my name!)

diddl · 27/10/2009 17:33

Here it would be pronounced Lowra, which I like.
