I've just found out an old school freind has called their newborn Orlando.

What do you think? I think it's quite cool.

My DS is friends with a little boy called Orlando - I grew to really like it but wasn't sure at first.

Penthesileia · 11/10/2009 13:26

Boy or girl?

starwhoreswonaprize · 11/10/2009 13:30

I like it, it was on the list but decided Orlando Bloom was too recent a sleb.

Ondine · 11/10/2009 13:36

It's very nice and I like Orli as a nn.

But I'd worry everyone would think I was a fan of Orlando Bloom rather than get it was a Shakespearean name.

JoeyBettany · 11/10/2009 14:05

Sounds like an old lady's cat.

UnrequitedSkink · 11/10/2009 14:07

Oh it's lovely. Not sure I'd be brave enough but I really like it. Didn't think of 'Bloom' either! I also like Valentine. But REALLY wouldn't be brave enough to try that one.

I wanted this, after the Virginia Woolf novel, but unfortunately I Am Not Posh Enough

holytoast · 11/10/2009 14:14

I called my rabbit this after the novel, as it was a rescue and no idea if boy or girl....like it, but orlando bloom has that slightly pikey look to me so would put me off. also have met his mum and she is loopy.

funny how associations can put you off names - I am a teacher - many a lovely name has been discounted upon remembering an annoying/horrible/geeky/smelly/badly behaved child I taught.

bellissima · 11/10/2009 17:37

Yes I know know know it's really a boy's name - but, er, the thought 'Disneyworld' does rather spring to mind.

twosofar · 12/10/2009 08:51

It's the Italian/Latin version of Roland, which doesn't sound quite so glamorous!

Marioandluigi · 12/10/2009 10:23

Im not sure, I dont like it but I dont hate it.

PestoPumpkinMonster · 12/10/2009 10:35

I love it

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 12/10/2009 10:41

My cat is called Orlando - and I am not an old lady. I've only met one person called Orlando in RL and I didn't like him much.
But that had nothing to do with his name - he would still have been a smug posh twat if he had been called Wayne.

doubleexpresso · 12/10/2009 13:34

Hate it for a child, love it for a cat. It sounds really poncey. Think everyone will assume that child was conceived in Orlando as per Brooklyn Beckham...

BarakObamasTransitVan · 13/10/2009 15:43

I know a little one. He gets called Landy (cool if you like Land Rovers) or Lando. I like it.

BarakObamasTransitVan · 13/10/2009 15:44

he's neither snooty-posh nor Brooklyn-trashy btw
