I love the French boys names - and the Japanese names - I wish i had some Japanese background so i could use one!
Especially like Miyu and Nanami.

annasmami · 03/10/2009 20:57

Yes, the French boys names are lovely as are the Italian Girls names!

ilovemydogandmrobama · 03/10/2009 20:59

would have thought Pascal would have been on the French list....

rachel234 · 04/10/2009 10:54

Some lovely names on here - I particularly like the Italian and French ones!

sonniboo · 04/10/2009 12:19

The Japanese girls names are lovely too.

Bucharest · 04/10/2009 12:24

The Italian ones are all for ladies over the age of 250, possibly wearing habits.

That's what you get for being in a country where people are forced encouraged to give children their grandparents names.

From what I can see of dd's contemporaries, the most popular names now seem to be Giulia, Martina and Luca. (every boy born is Luca seemingly....yawn)

I like the German list best.

mopsyflopsy · 06/10/2009 13:05

Bucharest, the Italian list is from 2005, so perhaps Luca has moved up since then?

I hadn't realised Luca was THAT comom in Italy?

minervaitalica · 06/10/2009 13:27

Luca is incredibly common and I cannot believe it's not on that list.

As of the Italian girl names, Giuseppina is probably the equivalent of Enid...

joesgirl · 06/10/2009 14:43

In case you are interested in actual names given by our Italian friends in Italy:

Ginevra
Ludovica
Carlotta
Cateria
Annamaria
Adele
Alice
Carola
Martha
Eugenia
Ir ene

Achille
Camillo
Vittorio
Gabriele
Lorenzo

joesgirl · 06/10/2009 14:44

sorry, meant Caterina

MmeGoblindt · 06/10/2009 14:53

The German one is pretty accurate. I am soooo bored of the Luca/Max/Alex/Tim and Anna/Sophie/Marie/Lena trend in Germany at the moment.

Lots of the girls have a combination of the most popular names, so Anna-Maria, Marie-Sophie, Anna-Lena, Leonie-Sophie, Ann-Sophie...

minervaitalica · 06/10/2009 15:19

I would add Sofia, Giulia, Leonardo, Edoardo, Paolo.

Eugenia???? Really?

joesgirl · 06/10/2009 16:59

True, my friend said there were about 4 or 5 sofias in the nursery.

Eugenia is indeed not very common, but then this is not a representative sample.

And here are the other ones I forgot to add earlier:

Beatrice
Laura
Elisabetta

Giovanni
Federico
Francesco
Leonardo
Ludovico

whensmydayoff · 06/10/2009 19:37

Lucia, Hmm think I like that. With it being Italian (and me being thick) do they pronounce it Loo-see-a or Loo-chee-a?

Othersideofthechannel · 06/10/2009 19:46

OP posts:

The variation in spellings is partly because of the effect of Quebec

In my children's age group the trend seems to be to name your children after old fashioned professions - Tanner, Cooper etc, or any variation along the lines of Braydon/Caden/Brennon/Brandon. Cubs etc can get quite confusing!

lilysam · 07/10/2009 12:09

Very interesting stuff....Noah is a current favourtie of mine and its so high up on some of these lists

Here's alist of 2008 for countries around the world here

mathanxiety · 07/10/2009 17:49

Thanks for that list lilysam. I like the girls' names Lida, Linnea, Eliska, Alba and Nika.
