Initials MEAT for a girl?

Hello,

I am 29 weeks pregnant with a girl.

We live in a Spanish speaking country and are pretty sure that we would like to call her Magdalena.

We are still thinking about a middle name.

Lots of options, but today we thought of Eloisa.

We both like it, but I am a bit concerned about giving the baby the initials MEAT (DH's surname is two words, AT).

Although clearly not an issue while we are in a Spanish speaking country, but I guess that we might return to the UK.

Any thoughts.

I don't think it'd be a problem, full initials not used that much anyway.

What is your husband's fathers surname -- isn't that the only surname she'd use in UK? Probably just use the first initial if it has to be a 2 word surname.

Word of warning: Beware of people who can't get 2 word surnames, they will assume first part is just another middle name.

MEAT is a rather unfortunate set of initials, I really wouldn't do it.

Whilst Magdalena and Eloisa are both beautiful names I find the two a endings a bit much together.

unless the initials spell out something really awful i really wouldn't worry about it. i have a rather unfortunate set of initials, and occassionally had the ha ha do you know your initials spell ---. but is has never been a problem (mine are worse than meat!)

I wouldn't. As they get older, they often scribble their initials on things - my dd's friends are amused in a friendly way that her initials are GFI (Go For It), but I think if they spelled a pronouncable word they would use it as a nickname. which wouldn't be much fun.

Yes, I agree that MAT or MA are more likely to be used, and these are both fine.

But no, AT is the full surname, and on all the documents, it's my husband's father's father's and mother's names.

Yes, I agree with the 2 word surname problem - here women generally don't take their husband's surname at all and so when I get post from the UK to Mrs T it feels doubley wrong!

Also, ending in a - really common for girls names in Spanish so I think that this is probably less of a problem here. But worth considering, thanks.

Why not give her 3 names ( not that unusual)? We did this for DS2 and it's not a problem.

oooh, now that's an idea, but with two surnames already it might turn into quite a mouthful for a little tiny baby.

How about Louisa instead of Eloisa. TBH the words fresh-meat come to mind with those initials, not particularly good.

LilRedWG - good idea! but part of the reason for liking Eloisa is that it is the direct translation of Alison, which Louisa wouldn't be.

Also DH is very definite that English sounding names would not sound good with his surname (very Spanish sounding) so I am not sure that he would agree

Finally, I was going to say that as an English name it's not on the list of approved names here but in fact I see that it is, so that's not an issue. OK

campion do you think that 16 syllables in total is OK? I will run this idea past DH.

How often do you have to say your full name to anyone, anyway?

Just make it a one syllable name and there's not much difference.You also get to use another name ( which is good if you have lots of names you like )

I would find a way round the initials. If its coming up now its bound to in the future
