TaylorSwift · 17/09/2009 12:18

Evie is a very common name these days, to be fair. There will be other Evies in her class at school etc. If you love it, use it.

loobylu3 · 17/09/2009 13:12

I don't think it matters that your sister is Eleanor. You could use the full name or a different nn, perhaps Nora or Elle. Eleanor is a beautiful classic (imo).
Genevieve is one of my favourite names but I think we have different taste so you may not like it.

GoldenSnitch · 17/09/2009 13:18

My husband has vetoed Aoife but i love it. It's pronounce Ee-fa. Close to Evie while being a completely different name...?

bellissima · 17/09/2009 13:23

Agree TaylorSwift. If you really like Evie then use it. If not then perhaps one of the other suggestions here. I like Eloise (even has a song. even by the Damned!), Elise, Elena, Eleanor and others mentioned. Just one thing on the 'Genevieve nn Evie', 'Virginie nn Evie' and so forth suggestions - make sure you like the full name as much as the nn as that will, after all, be her legal name.

KAEKAE · 17/09/2009 14:02

I really liked the name Amelia...and I told DPs cousin the name whilst at a wedding anyway neither of us were pregnant at the time so I didn't see any harm, however she went on to have a baby girl and named her Amelia...grrrr! I am now pregnant and have been totally put off using Amelia now, so we've decided on Poppy, it doesn't seem too popular where I am. We've told no one we know IRL.

What about Daisy or Evie as a NN for Evelyn which I love and think much nicer.

TokenFemale · 17/09/2009 17:20

I don't think Eloise is too similar to Eleanor, so shouldn't be a problem

deste · 17/09/2009 17:29

An Austrian friend was called Elvie.

Stokey · 17/09/2009 18:01

Matilda Honey and Max go nicely together.

scottishmummy · 17/09/2009 22:57

a fair few of those are top 100 very popular,so dont get too het up when someone else inevitably picks them

giggly · 17/09/2009 23:05

This has happened to me recently when friend gave her dd my only name for dd as a nn. She did have the grace to look sheepish at the time. I do agree that you cant pinch a name, but was put out a bit. I am still going for the same name though due next week, she should be flattered. Also never understood the big secrecy of not telling names.

scottishmummy · 17/09/2009 23:08

suggest you peruse 2008 top 100 girl names and top 100 boy names

you wont be only mum shouting those some of names on your list in park

bellissima · 18/09/2009 08:43

Have to say I don't like Honey. It's just the constant 'honey I'm home' she'll get. Or maybe that it doesn't sound like a 'professional' name (well, outside of one profession). Not that one should dictate what one's DCs do, but, as has been commented on some 'baby-boo' names given by celebrities to their daughters - just what aspirations do you have for your child? To me Honey falls into that category.

Like plenty of others on your list though!

Crapweasel · 18/09/2009 09:09

Some nice names here.

Dahila - poss the most unusual from the list. I think I like it though, could grow.
Esme - Like
Naimh - I think it's actually spelt Niamh. Pretty name but prone to constant mispellings/mispronunciation.
Ella - Pretty
Honey - Sorry, I'm another one that doesn't like this.
Mia - Like it. I don't usually like alliterative matches but "Max and Mia" works for me.
Lily - Pretty.
Matilda - Like, and lots of cool abbreviations.
Poppy - Still think this is somehow not a "proper name". Apols to any mums of Poppys!
Freya - Pretty but V popular around here
Ava - Nice. Closest to Evie.
Eloise - Nice

deste · 18/09/2009 09:56

Dahila - Dont like this
Esme - nice
Naimh - nice.
Ella - Pretty
Honey - daughters hamsters name
Mia - Like it.
Lily - Pretty.
Matilda - prefer Tilly
Poppy - Sons Beagles name
Freya - Pretty
Ava - lovely closest to Evie.
Eloise - Nice but will be called Louise

fanjolina · 18/09/2009 12:43

Este - my niece is cnamed Eloise, and has never been called Louise, so don't think that is a worry.

Thought of another possible name for the OP:
Keavy

Sounds similar, but much more original. Knew a lovely Irish girl with that name.

Podrick · 18/09/2009 14:13

do you like Vivienne or Martha?

tryingtobemarypoppins · 18/09/2009 22:28

Thanks for more suggestions, not keen on Keavy sorry! Martha is cute. I do like Nelly, Nell for short.....what do you think?

OP posts:
Hulababy · 18/09/2009 22:58

Podrick · 19/09/2009 08:59

Nell is nice, and I think unusual as well
I know a molly and max brother sister combi, do you like molly?

tryingtobemarypoppins · 19/09/2009 10:17

Molly - not keen, Matilda is really growing on me now. Nell is lovely but we do have a friends DD with it....

OP posts:
MaggieBeauLeo · 19/09/2009 12:33

don't like Molly, but love Polly for some reason.

cookielove · 19/09/2009 12:49

this is so nothing to do with your post, but did your friend who had the baby, have another child?
